- Numeracy: Problem-solving, number operations, geometry, and measurement
Numerical Reasoning:
- Review place value and number sense, including identifying and representing numbers up to at least 1000.
- Practice addition and subtraction, including solving problems with and without regrouping/borrowing.
- Review multiplication and division, including solving problems with multiples of 10 and 100.
- Introduce fractions, decimals, and percentages, including identifying and comparing fractions and decimals, and converting between fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Practice applying these concepts to solve problems involving measurement, data analysis, and geometry.
Reading Comprehension:
- Review strategies for understanding and interpreting different types of texts, such as narratives, informational texts, and persuasive texts.
- Practice identifying main ideas, supporting details, and inferring meaning from texts.
- Introduce vocabulary strategies, such as using context clues and dictionary skills.
Language Conventions:
- Review grammar and punctuation rules, including verb tenses, nouns, pronouns, adjectives, and adverbs.
- Practice editing and proofreading texts for correct grammar and punctuation usage.
- Review spelling rules and strategies, including phonics and syllable division.
- Practice applying these conventions when writing and editing texts
Year 3 NAPLAN Term 1
The focus for each class will alternate every week, following the format as displayed below:
Weeks 1,3,5,7
Writing: Students will learn the basics of persuasive writing, including how to identify an argument and how to craft a strong thesis statement. They will learn how to use evidence and logical reasoning to support their arguments and how to address counterarguments.
Students will delve into the world of narrative writing. They will learn how to create a plot and develop characters, as well as how to use setting, imagery, and other literary devices to enhance their stories. They will also learn about different narrative structures, such as the hero’s journey, and how to create a compelling climax and resolution.
Language Convention: Students will learn about grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, and editing skills through in-class exercises and writing prompts. The class will focus on correcting common grammatical errors, using punctuation correctly, expanding vocabulary, and editing writing.
Weeks 2,4,6,8
English: Students will focus on reading comprehension, including the ability to understand and analyze texts of various genres and levels of complexity. They will learn how to identify main ideas, make inferences and draw conclusions.
Mathematics: Students will focus on number and algebra, including the ability to understand and use fractions, decimals and percentages, perform complex calculations, and solve problems involving multiple operations. They will learn how to identify and use mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and algebraic concepts.

Your child’s writing piece will be marked and feedback provided every week. All feedback will also be provided for you directly on the platform for easy access.
How do you monitor the results?
The trial test results are automatically marked and results viewable immediately after the exam is completed.
