Year 8 Victorian Selective School Trial Test Term 1
The focus for each class will alternate every week, following the format as displayed below:
Weeks 1,3,5,7,9
English: Students will focus on reading comprehension, including the ability to understand and analyze texts of various genres and levels of complexity. They will learn how to identify main ideas, make inferences and draw conclusions.
Writing: Students will learn the basics of persuasive writing, including how to identify an argument and how to craft a strong thesis statement. They will learn how to use evidence and logical reasoning to support their arguments and how to address counterarguments.
Students will delve into the world of narrative writing. They will learn how to create a plot and develop characters, as well as how to use setting, imagery, and other literary devices to enhance their stories. They will also learn about different narrative structures, such as the hero’s journey, and how to create a compelling climax and resolution.Focus will be on Narrative, Persuasive texts, expression and grammar.
Weeks 2,4,6,8,10
Mathematical Skills: Students will focus on number and algebra, including the ability to understand and use fractions, decimals and percentages, perform complex calculations, and solve problems involving multiple operations. They will learn how to identify and use mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and algebraic concepts.
General Ability (GA):The program will focus on developing critical thinking skills, improving problem-solving abilities and increasing speed and accuracy in answering questions. Through practice exams, students will gain the confidence and skills needed to perform at their best on exam day.
