Writing Prompt: Write the opening 200–250 words of a short story about a hero with a distinct quirk and an unusual fear who must face a challenging situation. You must reveal the quirk through action rather than telling, and show how it affects the way your hero reacts. Your story must include: One clear, consistent quirk (e.g. tapping a shoe three times, whispering a special saying) One unusual fear (e.g. afraid of buttons, balloons, feathers) At least two moments where the quirk appears to comfort or protect the character Sensory zoom: vivid description focusing on sound, touch, or movement Use of the Power of Three for dramatic impact A hint at why your hero has this quirk or fear (can be subtle)
