Inside the Year 5 Scholarship Specialisation
The Year 5 Scholarship Advantage
Year 5 is the year scholarship preparation actually begins.
The February 2027 scholarship window, ACER on 28 February, AAS schools across their three-week window, Sydney Grammar’s own paper, tests students at the start of Year 6. That means the preparation year is Year 5, right now. The Year 5 Scholarship Specialisation is an essential introduction: exam formats, question types, reasoning skills, writing proficiency, and the test strategies that give a Year 5 student a genuine competitive edge.
One 2-hour session per week. Every component covered.
Each Wednesday session moves through the scholarship exam landscape systematically: exam format mastery across AAS and ACER structures, abstract and verbal reasoning, vocabulary in context, narrative and persuasive writing, reading comprehension strategies, and interview preparation for shortlisted students.
Who This Course Is For
For students needing help or facing difficulty in:
Exam Format Mastery
Adapting to unique AAS and ACER exam structures. Balancing knowledge application and problem-solving under time constraints. Enhancing written expression skills: originality, relevance, fluency, and grammar.

Common Questions
Who is this program for?
The Year 5 Scholarship Specialisation is designed for Year 5 students preparing for the February 2027 private school scholarship window: the ACER Cooperative Test (Sat 28 Feb), the AAS school windows (6-28 Feb), and school-specific papers like Sydney Grammar (Sun 1 Feb). It suits students sitting scholarship exams for Year 7 2028 entry, and equally students whose families are considering private school entrance (non-scholarship) pathways.
Why are there no recordings?
This is a live Zoom intensive. The format relies on real-time reasoning drills, immediate feedback, and interactive strategy discussion that recordings cannot capture. To preserve the integrity of the experience, sessions are not recorded. Wednesday 6:00pm attendance is essential for the duration of the course.
Which exams does this prepare for?
All the major NSW scholarship formats: the ACER Cooperative Scholarship Test (used by 60+ schools including King’s, Knox, Shore, Newington, Scots, MLC, Abbotsleigh), the AAS battery (Pymble, Ascham, SCEGGS, Wenona, Barker, Kambala, Tara, Loreto), EduTest schools, and school-specific papers like Sydney Grammar. The reasoning, writing, and comprehension skills transfer across all of them; format-specific strategy is taught explicitly for each.
What results have Scholarly students achieved?
Every scholarship season our families report offers from Sydney Grammar, King’s (including 50% scholarships), Shore, Knox, Trinity, Reddam House, and more. The screenshots on this page are real messages from real Scholarly parents, shared with permission. We can’t promise outcomes, no honest program can, but we can show you what our families achieve year after year.
What’s the weekly time commitment?
One 2-hour live Zoom session every Wednesday evening (6:00-8:00pm), plus weekly homework aligned with the week’s focus. Most students should plan 3-4 hours of total weekly engagement. Homework receives detailed feedback through the Scholarly Learning Platform.
Does this include interview preparation?
Yes. The program includes guidance on interview skills: communicating personal values and experiences, developing articulation and maturity in responses, and understanding how top schools structure their interviews. Students who reach the shortlist stage walk in prepared.
Give your Year 5 child a competitive edge.
The February 2027 scholarship window is closer than it looks. 20 weeks of essential preparation across exam formats, reasoning, writing, comprehension, and interview skills. Wednesday evenings, live on Zoom.
