The High School Advanced Advantage
For students who are ready to be challenged, not just kept busy.
Most high school tutoring teaches the same content students already see at school, only slower. The High School Advanced Program does the opposite: it accelerates ahead, deepens conceptually, and builds the kind of critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical writing that turns capable students into elite performers. Expert instruction, motivated peer cohort, and a results-driven framework designed for high achievers.
Real transformation, not just revision
20 weeks of live instruction across English, Mathematics, and Science. Each week pushes students beyond the syllabus into the kind of advanced thinking that the top of the cohort actually does. Confident, critical, and prepared for whatever comes next.
What Parents Tell Us
Sound familiar?
“They’re getting As but they’re bored”
Top of the class at school, but the work isn’t challenging anymore. High achievers need stretch, not more of the same. The Advanced program pushes beyond the syllabus with extension problems, deeper conceptual work, and the kind of intellectual ambition that bored students are starved of.
“Their writing is fine for school but flat for the top mark”
Senior English wants thesis sophistication, motif tracking, conceptual phrasing, comparative analysis. Most students don’t learn this until they’ve already lost marks for not having it. We teach Band 6 writing architecture from the start: PETAL, quote weaving, tonal control, extended metaphor.
“They can do the maths but can’t explain why”
Procedural fluency without conceptual understanding is the ceiling that breaks in senior maths. Our Advanced curriculum teaches the why behind the how: function vs relation, the discriminant as a method-choice tool, transformations in order. The kind of deep maths that scales into Advanced and Extension.
“Science feels disconnected from real understanding”
School science races through topics. Students memorise but rarely build the conceptual bridges that let knowledge stick. Our program connects genetics to ethics, electricity to wave behaviour, chemical reactions to industrial applications. Science as a way of thinking, not a list of facts.
High-achieving students don’t need more practice. They need the right challenge. The Advanced program is built for students who are ready to move beyond the syllabus and develop the elite thinking, problem solving, and writing that defines top performers.
What Your Child Learns
Our carefully structured curriculum covers essential skills.
English & Writing, Tuesday 6-7pm
Analytical and Creative Writing Skills
Students engage deeply with two contrasting novels and the writing craft required to analyse and respond at the highest level. Building the thesis-driven essay, the creative voice, and the close reading instinct that distinguishes top performers.
- Novel Lenses: Merryll of the Stones by Brian Caswell and Skellig by David Almond
- Thesis-Driven Essays: PETAL, quote weaving, cohesive links
- Creative & Discursive Craft: Motif threads, extended metaphor, tonal control
- Short Answer Questions + unseen texts under exam conditions
- Close reading of language: figurative language, voice, register, structure
- Comparative analysis between texts
- Writing in multiple modes: analytical, creative, persuasive, discursive
OutcomeStudents develop the analytical instinct, writing range, and intellectual confidence needed to perform at the top of the cohort, in school and beyond.
Mathematics, Thursday 6-7pm
Advanced Algebra, Functions & Coordinate Geometry
Beyond procedural practice. Students build the conceptual fluency and method-choice judgement that defines elite mathematical thinking.
- Linear Graphing & Line Features: Gradient-intercept, point-gradient, two-point method; midpoint, distance, parallel/perpendicular lines & equations
- Simultaneous Equations: Substitution, elimination, graphing solutions; worded setups and variable choice
- Advanced Algebra & Inequalities: Binomial squares, difference of squares, grouping; 1D number line and 2D region shading
- Quadratics I & II: Solve by factorising (monic/non-monic, ax² = c), completing the square, quadratic formula, discriminant for method choice
- Parabolas & Transformations: Intercepts, vertex/axis, factor & turning-point forms; translations, dilations, reflections (order matters)
- Functions & Further Graphs: Function vs relation, notation & substitution; circles/semicircles; exponentials (growth vs decay, asymptote) and basic cubics
- End-of-Term Mixed-Topic Mock + Coaching
OutcomeStudents walk into senior maths with deep conceptual fluency, ready for Advanced and Extension pathways.
Science, Saturday 6-7pm
Genetics, Energy, Waves & Chemistry Foundations
Science as a way of thinking, not a list of facts. We build the conceptual bridges that connect topics and prepare students for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at senior level.
- Genetics Foundations & Applications: DNA → genes/alleles, genotype/phenotype, transcription/translation, mutations & mutagens, cancer link, DNA fingerprinting, recombinant insulin, cloning, vaccines, stem cells, IVF, ethics
- Ecology & Energy Flow: Producers/photosynthesis primacy, trophic levels, food chains/webs, predator-prey cycles, quadrats/tagging & sampling
- Electricity & Circuits: Voltage, current, resistance (relationships/analogies), symbols, series vs parallel, circuit requirements
- Waves & Light: Wave features, longitudinal vs transverse, v = fλ, sound in media; reflection, refraction, lenses & real-world uses
- Chemical Compounds & Properties: Ionic vs covalent (formation, naming, formulas), properties ↔ industrial uses
- Chemical Reactions & Energy: Balancing equations, acids/bases, pH, neutralisation, precipitation, displacement, redox, combustion, combination vs decomposition
OutcomeStudents develop a connected, quantitative understanding of science that prepares them for senior Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Common Questions
Who is this program for?
The High School Advanced Program is designed for high-achieving students in high school who want to be challenged beyond the standard syllabus. It suits students who are already performing well at school but want to develop the elite analytical, mathematical, and scientific thinking that defines top performers. Equally valuable for students aiming to stretch their capabilities before senior school and HSC.
My child is already a strong student. Will this be challenging enough?
Yes. The Advanced program is specifically built for students who find school content under-challenging. Our curriculum pushes well beyond the standard syllabus with extension problems, conceptual depth, and the kind of intellectual ambition that strong students are rarely offered. Top-ATAR graduate tutors model elite thinking and mentor students beyond what schools typically deliver.
What texts are studied in English?
This semester, students engage with two contrasting novels: Merryll of the Stones by Brian Caswell and Skellig by David Almond. Both texts offer rich material for analytical and creative writing development, character analysis, motif tracking, and comparative work. Students develop the thesis-driven essay craft and the close reading instinct required for high-level English performance.
What if my child can’t make a session?
All sessions are live and recorded, available for review up to 2 weeks post-session to reinforce learning. Homework is accessible through the Scholarly LMS and tracked for completion. Success Coach support is available 7 days a week via WhatsApp, WeChat, Scholarly Ask, and phone, with answers within 24 hours.
How are classes delivered?
All sessions are live online classes, 60 minutes each, three times per week (English Tuesday, Mathematics Thursday, Science Saturday). Sessions are delivered via Zoom with interactive features (polls, chat, screen sharing). Recorded for catch-up. Parents have visibility into homework completion and progress through the Scholarly LMS.
What’s included beyond the live classes?
Percentile reports and detailed writing feedback to pinpoint gaps fast. Challenges and Awards that keep momentum high (every milestone earns points, badges, and prizes). 7-day Helpline for questions outside class time. Session replays for stress-free revision. A motivated peer cohort guided by exceptional educators.
