Deconstructing rubric terms like “paradox” and “anomaly” to grasp their conceptual power. Mastering quote-count formulas for explain, analyse, and compare questions. Replacing simple thematic observations with sophisticated “conceptual statements”. Upgrading the PETAL structure to a cause-and-effect mode
Week 2: Advanced Essay Architecture

Crafting thesis statements for theme-focused, text-focused, and form-focused questions. The 5-step introduction formula: from conceptual statement to direct answer. Advanced body paragraph construction and seamless quote integration.
Week 3: Mastering Unseen Texts

The “two-minute drill” for rapid textual deconstruction. Analyzing the “deconstructed essay” to understand functional elements. Re-moulding prepared arguments to fit unfamiliar texts and questions. Integrated structures for complex comparative questions.

Block 2: Module B (Weeks 4-5)
Elevating Analysis Through Critical & Philosophical Engagement

Week 4: Critical Perspectives

Treating “textual integrity” and “resonance” as provable conceptual arguments. Weaving form and structure into the essay as inseparable from meaning. Four modes of critical engagement: support, challenge, synthesise, and lens. Integrating philosophical references to demonstrate intellectual range.
Week 5: Application & Adaptability

Workshop: Transforming clunky critic integration into seamless intellectual dialogue. Moulding a single sophisticated argument to fit three different question types. Refining conclusions to link classic texts with contemporary concerns.

Block 3: Module A (Weeks 6-7)
Mastering the Art of Textual Conversation

Week 6: The Integrated Formula

Deconstructing “resonances” and “dissonances” to understand why differences matter. The 5-step integrated paragraph structure: from topic sentence to judgment. Sentence-level formulas for articulating “shift in context” and “judgment on value”. Deep dive into rubric keywords: reimagining, reframing, and colliding.
Week 7: Precision & Synthesis

Identifying and correcting the “shopping list” and “lopsided” essay styles. Refining the “context-as-history-lesson” error into genuine analysis. The 3-step conclusion model for powerful synthesis.

Block 4: Module C (Weeks 8-9)
From Analyst to Artist

Week 8: Creative Writing Masterclass

Defining character through action and choice rather than description. Advanced structural techniques: foreshadowing, flashbacks, and cliffhangers. Exploring resonant themes: unreliability of memory, performance of identity, and the weight of the unspoken. Using precise metalanguage to justify creative decisions.
Week 9: Discursive & Persuasive

Rhetoric Structuring discursive pieces as intellectual journeys: thesis, antithesis, synthesis. Classical rhetoric structures for persuasive writing. The “Theorist’s Toolkit”: Integrating Plato, Descartes, Freud, Foucault, and Baudrillard. Crafting responses that resemble sophisticated public discourse.

Week 10: The Final Synthesis
The 1% Difference

Week 10: Polishing for State Rank

Replacing weak verbs with conceptual power: “problematises,” “constructs,” “foregrounds”. Syntactical variation: using tricolon, parallelism, and sentence length for impact. Applying philosophical lenses across Common Module, Module A, and Module B. Demonstrating genuine scholarly engagement to the marker.

I have overcome diminishing OC English result of 40% to get into James Ruse with 100% in English through determination and hard work. The main challenge personally regarding the selective test was English and Writing which I overcame with lots of help from Scholarly and Steve.
