Dear Diary, today my life changed forever …
It all started this morning when Mum said, “Guess what? You’re going to be on stage tonight!” My heart did a backflip. I was going to sing solo at the school concert. Before that moment, I was just a regular kid who sang in the shower and hummed during math. But now, I was going to be in front of everyone. EVERYONE.
Before
At school, my tummy felt like it had a thousand butterflies doing the cha-cha. I couldn’t concentrate. Even my best friend Lily said, “You look like you’ve seen a ghost!” I just nodded and tried to smile, but my hands were sweaty, and my legs felt like jelly. The music teacher, Mr. Jacobs, gave me a thumbs up and whispered, “You’ve got this.” His voice was calm like a river, and it helped a bit.
During
When the curtains opened, the lights were so bright they made the stage look like a magical land. I stepped forward, clutching the microphone like it was my sword. My heart thumped like a drum in a parade. I could hear whispers in the crowd and then silence. I took a deep breath. The music started.
I sang.
At first, my voice was shaky, like a leaf in the wind. But then I remembered Mum’s words: “Sing like you’re telling a story.” So, I did. My voice grew stronger, like a lion’s roar. I saw Lily smiling in the front row, and Mr. Jacobs nodding. The crowd was quiet, listening. It felt like flying. Like I was a bird soaring above the clouds.
After
When the song ended, there was a pause. Then clapping. Loud clapping. Some people even stood up! I felt like my heart exploded with happiness. Backstage, Mum hugged me tight and said, “I’m so proud of you.” I could smell her perfume—vanilla and sunshine. Lily ran up and shouted, “You were AMAZING!” I laughed so hard I nearly cried.
Later that night, lying in bed, I thought about everything. I used to be scared of being seen. I thought only brave people could stand on stage. But now I know bravery isn’t about not being scared. It’s about doing it anyway.
I’ll never forget the feeling of singing under those lights. It was like stepping into a dream and finding out it was real. I’m still me, but now I’m a me who sings in front of people. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll do it again.
Goodnight, Diary. Today was the start of something new.

Dear diary today my life changed forever. On my way to school, my teacher, Mrs. Sambell, told me something unexpected she said I had been chosen to be a homework buddy. That means I’ll be helping the Year 1 students with their homework! At first, I wasn’t sure what to think, but the more I walked toward class, the more I realized this could be the start of something really special.
My homework buddy’s name was Drew. He was younger than me, but I could tell right away that he was smart. In fact, his grades were already quite high, so the teacher gave him homework that was harder than what most Year 1 students would get. When we met at the start of the school day, we introduced ourselves and spent some time talking about each other. Drew told me about his favourite subjects, and I shared a little about mine. I could see he was curious and eager to learn, and that made me feel proud to be his buddy.
We started by doing a bit of maths like multiplication and division and then we practice that skill further in a test which he got a 27 out of 40 which is very impressive as this is a year above his level and his first time doing this. Then we did a writing task where he learnt about paragraphs and story structure. I had to admit teaching was harder than I thought however after a bit I started to get the hang of it. At the end of the day we waved goodbye he learnt a lot today and so did I.
In the end I was proud the be the homework buddy of Drew. Through teaching Drew I understand how younger people feel when they struggle with homework, I feel like I was being caring. I understand now how much younger kids look up to us.
