Have you ever stood by the Parramatta River and wondered what stories its waters could tell if only they weren’t clouded by plastic, debris, and pollution?
Our river, once a thriving artery of life and connection, now struggles under the weight of human neglect. According to the Australian Marine Conservation Society, over 8 million tonnes of plastic enter waterways globally each year, and rivers like ours act as conveyor belts, carrying this waste straight to the ocean. Closer to home, studies show that microplastics have been found in 100% of tested Australian rivers. This isn’t just an environmental issue it’s a community one.
That’s why I propose we organize a River Clean Up Day on Saturday, October 12th, to restore the health and beauty of our local river. This initiative will not only reduce pollution but also strengthen our community’s bond and raise awareness about sustainable living.
Environmental Impact: Cleaning the river helps protect local wildlife, from fish to birds, that rely on clean water to survive. It also improves water quality, making the area safer for recreational use and reducing long-term ecological damage.
Participation: Imagine the power of 50 volunteers working side by side families, students, retirees each contributing a few hours to make a lasting difference. We’ll need:
50 volunteers
30 pairs of gloves
20 garbage bags
10 litter pickers
Awareness: This event will serve as a wake-up call. How often do we walk past litter without a second thought? How many of us know that rivers are one of the main sources of ocean pollution? By participating, we educate ourselves and others, creating ripple effects of change.
So I ask you: if not us, then who? If not now, then when?
Let’s come together to give our river a voice again. I’m happy to coordinate logistics, but I need your support to spread the word, gather supplies, and rally volunteers. Together, we can turn one day of action into a legacy of care.
Please let me know if the group is willing to sponsor or support this initiative. Our river is waiting.
Warm regards, Bersi

Dear our most honourable Member of Parliament,
Imagine a entire lake, so crystal clear that it made it to the newspapers. An whole wonderland exposed just because of a single action nobody cares to do. All we do is sit, wait , and dream about this fascinating scene that would never come true. Why are we all thinking about it other than actually constructing our very own glorious river? That’s the reason why I have come to implore you to clean our stream, turning a nightmare into a dream land.
With such a sustaining waterway, nature will thrive unlike before. Animals including dolphins, many species of fish, dugong and many others can survive in this environment. Migration for other worldwide species to this region will undoubtedly skyrocket, proving as a perfect breeding and hunting ground. Alongside the arrival of animals, scientific research can be conducted much more quicker and easier with these marine creatures around, benefiting in the biological area of investigation.
Additionally, economy of the town will increase significantly as tourist attraction will divert itself here instead of the other alternative choices. After a ton of exploration, my analysis shows that there is a 1-0.01% chance of a lake in the whole world. So it is guaranteed to having visitors flocking to take a glimpse of another masterpiece form due to only several weeks of hard work. Along with those extra people temporarily staying in the settlement, that will mean that more groceries bought, extra money spend on hotels and accommodation, etc. This extraordinary enlargement in the community inhabitants will certainly boost the economy with one-of-a-kind results.
Furthermore, with the abundance of animals around in the reserve, as well as fish, birds and many terrestrial animals provide an tremendously colossal supply of food, meaning that many farming animals won’t need to be bought if we switch to the natural side for eating. Not only does that raise our wealth status but it also limits the amount of greenhouse gases released, especially methane, which is produced by land creatures creating flatulence. Experimentation shows that methane contributes to approximately 37% of the entire greenhouse gases that are freed into open air.
Now that we have presented our explanations for the separation of the waste from our gracious lake, what do you think about it? Would you declare with pride and say yes, bringing a spark of hope into our community? Or will you stand firm and state no, leaving our fragile waterway in a filthy condition nobody wants to lay a hand on. It’s up to you. Our stakes are in your hands.
Regards,
Timothy Wilson

Dear Local Council
Have you ever walked along our local river and noticed the plastic bottles, food wrappers, and even old tires floating in the water? Isn’t it heartbreaking to think that the very place where our children play, where wildlife should thrive, has turned into a dumping ground?
Our river is more than just water flowing through our town. It is the lifeblood of our community. Unfortunately, research shows that 80% of ocean pollution begins in rivers and that plastic can take up to 500 years to break down. If we do not act now, the problem will only grow worse. That is why I strongly believe we should organise a River Clean-Up Day to restore the beauty and health of our local environment.
First of all, cleaning the river will have a powerful environmental impact. Every piece of rubbish removed saves fish, birds, and other wildlife from choking or becoming trapped. A clean river means cleaner water and a safer, healthier habitat for all living things. Imagine the pride of seeing clear water flowing freely, knowing our own hands made the difference.
Moreover, such an event would bring community participation. Isn’t this exactly the kind of project that unites people across all ages and backgrounds? From pupils earning service credits to grandparents passing on values of care and responsibility, everyone has a role to play. Working together not only cleans the river but strengthens the bonds that hold our community together.
Lastly, a clean up will raise awareness. Many people do not realise how harmful even a single plastic bag can be. By coming together visibly, we send a message that our community cares about the environment and is willing to act. That awareness can spread like ripples in water, inspiring even more people to protect our natural resources.
Therefore, I recommend that we hold the River Clean-Up Day on Saturday, 9 November. To make this successful, we will need at least 50 volunteers, along with 20 litter pickers, 50 pairs of gloves, and 30 large bin bags. With your support in organising, providing materials, and spreading the word, I am confident we can transform our river into the clean, thriving place it deserves to be.
So, I ask you: will we sit back and watch our river drown in waste, or will we rise together to save it? The choice is ours, but the time to act is now.

Sincerely,

Dear Citizens of Longstown
Have you ever wondered why one person is getting sick ? Its not that they ate any sweets. Its that they drank polluted water, bathed, and cooking from our Stonesen River. Our own river has been polluted with snack bags, chemicals and even the most grossest thing which is dung. I know but these can all affect health, Sea life there and even seaweed which some people get sick. I all want you guys to join my club. Our health, Sea life and even food and how we use rivers.
Did you know that 1/4 of the children die due to river pollution? It is because the chemicals will burn with the dung and create a bad air quality which can affect health. If you thought that if river pollution does not affect us and we don’t use river waters, Also if you even thought that won’t affect undersea animals ? You are totally wrong. You guys think that we won’t swim in rivers but we use it for other things which we will talk about later. That is my first reason.
If you even thought that it doesnt affect sea life, then you’re wrong. Because the garbage goes down and affects the sea life. Like nearly half of our fish is left in the water. That is sad. Our club will make our river a clean masion for our sea life. And if they are healthy, our fish population will higher.
My third reason is how we use the river water. We use river water for many things like :
1.Drinking
2.Swimming
3.Bathing
4.Watering plants
5.Cooking
6.Cleaning
They all are used for good but with polluted river water, it can all be bad. Heres how they affect :
Drinking = Causes dysentery.
2.Swimming = Cause gastro
3.Bathing = Cause viruses and illness
4.Watering plants = Introduces harmful chemicals that affect
5.Cooking = Harmful bacteria can come and leads to cancer
6.Cleaning = Spreading diseases like cholera and typhoid through contaminated food and dishes, and by potentially causing skin infections or other long-term illnesses through skin contact.
If you see all of these, it can lead to these diseases. That is my third reason.
Come and join my river cleaning club. Everyday at 9:30 to 11:30 A.M. We will be using:
Fishing boats
Nets
A bucket full of clean water (in case if we get a fish from the net accidentaly)
Nitrile cleaning gloves
Our own bin
We need vollunteers fom this range ( 1,000 – 1,000,000). Thats a lot of vollunteers but we need these much people to bring back to our normal fish population. I made a decision with the chief minister of our town and the government that whoever litters in our river, will pay a 1000000 senkals fine. Join my club and we will make our river a better place. Due to the three reasons, i will be coming for chief minister so vote for me and join my river clean up club.
