    Part 1:
    Etched in the Wall
Nestled amidst undulating valleys and grassy peaks stood a brick wall. An ancient artefact, the wall was worn with age and its once sharp and acute edges degraded to a soft, flat surface. Moss had begun to creep up onto the mortar, blotting out the blood and chaos that had once characterised the setting in which the wall resided. Throughout the centuries when nature took over the area and breathed life into the battle-worn region, flora had sprung up from the depths. Tendrils of vines and moss had enveloped local architecture, drowning the manmade relics in a sea of green. All that remained which signified human intervention in the landscape was the brick wall, a testament to the enduring effects of mankind on the world.

Upon further inspection of the cracks and crevices of the wall, one may unveil a tapestry of history. The brick wall had withstood a tumultuous past riddled with battle and bloodshed, witnessing the barbarism of humanity. The origins of the wall started in a battle, a tense collision between two dominant powers. Built with hands and mortar, the wall was intended for defensive purposes against the opposing force. Standing as high as a fortress, the wall made up for a devastating tactical blunder by the leading general which decimated the army. It stretched for miles, connecting two sides of the horizon. As months of relentless destruction ravaged the surrounding, the wall stood steadfast despite the persistent battering. However, the tide turned when a huge section of the wall collapsed underneath heavy artillery. From there, an onslaught of soldiers rushed in to finish off the opponent.

As the surroundings of the brick wall tensed for a final touchdown, the few remaining survivors made a flee by scaling the wall which towered over the battlefield. Axes, swords and arrows were pelted at the wall in attempts to injure or fall the climbers. With heavy armour and unsuited ability, the soldiers were unable to pursue the escapees on the towering wall, the few figures becoming smaller and smaller as they grappled with cracks and grips to the top. However, being surrounded by a sea of enemy soldiers, the survivors had no choice but to surrender. A blue flag posted on the western end of the brick wall today signifies this battle and continues to live in the fissures and ruptures of the wall.

A tapestry of imperfections and damage, the brick wall serves as a living library of the battle that resulted in the picturesque landscape today. Owned by the power that had won the war, a more peaceful and civilised tribe resided in this area, tending to the rural landscape. As civilisation shifted to more urban areas, the landscape was abandoned to nature’s tender hands. Over centuries, neighbouring jungles and forests slowly crept into the battlefield, sprinkling life into the barren landscape. Trees emerged from beneath as a canopy of bushes and exotic plant species developed underneath. For once, the area was a serene haven free of humans and fauna began to inhabit the place. The environment flourished while human civilisation developed and strengthened parallel to it. Then, one day came a human who would’ve been the cause for the destruction of the forest today.

As the brick wall stood between the human, who turned out to be a lumberjack, and the dense forest, the lumberjack was intrigued at why a manmade artefact would be lingering in such an environment. He ventured deeper and found a trove of botanical wonders. Following the discovery was a mass of wood-chopping with almost all of the forest destroyed. The brick wall, however, stayed to witness the destruction. Now with humans dominating almost all of the Earth, its surroundings would be changed rapidly. From a battlefield to a forest, the area would soon be bustling with human civilisation.

Carved in the brick wall were human letters, a sign of the enduring impacts of humanity on the Earth. The wall had gone through changes in the landscape and had witnessed the transformation that time brings along. Geographical tides, human involvement, and nature’s embrace had changed the wall. Scarred with damage and a canopy of foliage, the wall has a double personality, if not triple. The wall stands as a reminder that, despite the ongoing changes and force that had changed the surroundings, the wall would remain rooted in its origins. The ongoing onslaught of time, geographics, and human involvement had not broken or collapsed the wall; it had strengthened itself. The multiple scars and worn-out edges did not resemble weakness; they portrayed the everlasting struggle between time and the strong spirit of the wall.

As technology advances across the globe, walls have begun to be replaced by other devices to suit peoples’ needs. Yet the brick wall built several centuries ago remains standing as strong as ever, toughened by age and change. Standing high amidst other sophisticated counterparts, the wall is not merely a defensive structure; it is a tapestry of history woven together in solid bricks. Each line, crevice, and imperfection marks the numerous events that have shaped it. From its humble origins, brick walls have been stacked by hand with mortar and brick to produce a tapestry of artistic phenomena. The art of wall construction has lived on since the very origins of humanity. Serving as both a defensive structure and artistic means, brick walls have been the cornerstones of construction development. It is a testament to the enduring presence of humanity and represents the spirit of resilience. It seamlessly weaves itself into today’s world, offering protection, a glimpse into the wide canvas of history, and a sensory tapestry to enjoy.
