What 2023 HSC Results Say About Knox Grammar School

Knox Grammar School has emerged as a standout performer in the 2023 Higher School Certificate (HSC) examinations, with its students achieving remarkable results.
Released on December 14, 2023, the results indicate a median ATAR score of 93, with one student achieving a perfect ATAR score and two others scoring 99.90.
More Result Highlights: Jacob Johnstone received an ATAR of 99.95, while Hanwei Chong and Christopher Goh each achieved an ATAR of 99.90. A total of 56 students were listed as All-Round Achievers, and 24 were placed on the Top Achievers List.
Mr. Scott James, the Headmaster, commented on the results, emphasising the combined efforts of staff, students, and parents in achieving these outcomes. He noted the importance of collaboration and the development of resilience and determination among the students.
“The Class of 2023 recognised early in their journey of the power of collaboration. Collectively they worked tirelessly to support their peers so they were ready to perform and hit a personal best in each of their HSC examinations,” he said.
State Rankings: Knox Grammar secured the 11th position in the Sydney Morning Herald’s Top 150 Schools Report. The school recorded 979 Band 6 results, which represent subject marks ranging from 90 to 100. Furthermore, 38 students achieved an ATAR of 99 or higher, underscoring the high level of academic performance at the school.
Subject-Specific Accomplishments: Two Knox students, Jacob Johnstone and Hugh Latimer, achieved the state’s top ranking in several subjects. Johnstone was First in Course for English Extension 1 and Legal Studies, while Latimer topped the state in Economics.
Students also participated in various HSC Showcases and Exhibitions, with nominations in categories like drama, visual arts, and music.

A survey revealed that 99.6% of approximately 250 parents rated teaching quality as a significant factor in choosing Knox, indicating a high level of satisfaction with the educational standards at the school.

A surge in Private School Enrolments
Interestingly alongside Knox, there has been an overall surge in parents choosing private schools in Australia for their kids – The percentage of Australian students in independent schools climbed from 13.3% to 15.1% from 2017 to 2022, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) revealed.
The ABS data also confirmed a record high of 187,913 enrollments in private schools, indicating a robust 3.3% growth rate.
This uptick reflects a worldwide shift toward private schooling education, as evidenced by the rising number of English-medium international schools reaching a total of 9,605 worldwide, marking a 6.3 percent increase year-over-year.
