The Book
As Lily trudged wearily through the snow, she stepped on a book. The extreme cold formed ice on her lips as she bent down to pick it up. The book had yellowing corners which were bent and a leather cover with gold-trimmed edges. It was the size of Lily’s palm. Lily felt shivers everywhere in her body as she opened the book, which was covered in frazil ice.
The book’s words popped out in golden letters. The snow was starting to get heavier, until Lily couldn’t her surroundings anymore through her glasses. However, the book’s golden letters still remained in her sight.
The letters read: “By possessing this object, you will gain enough knowledge to lead a ship to cross the Southern Seas.” Lily’s head turned sideways as she gave the letters a puzzled look. She was only 9, almost 2 years younger than her best friend, Charlotte and didn’t know what possessing meant. Possessing was officially one of the few words in her head that she didn’t know.
She continued trudging through the snow to her cabin while putting the book into her pocket. Once reaching the fireplace, she fell asleep before her mother served dinner.
The next day, Lily instantly regretted sleeping by the fireplace. Her head ached as her body felt cold over the wooden tiles. However, she still began the day by reciting word meanings. That day’s word theme was negativity and neutralism. “Annihilate means to destroy, as well as eradicate, as scathe means to be angry…possessing means-wait, I know what possessing means?!”
Lily shuffled her hands in her pockets. The book was still there! She peered into the book. The golden letters remained and suddenly, Lily knew what it meant.
Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, maybe I am not that perfect for you.
Rose and Violet were sitting together at childcare.
“One day,” giggled Rose, “Barbie went out for lunch.”
“She was eating a sandwich,”
“And she saw Peppa Pig!” They answered together. Rose and Violet were best friends. They always had the same hairdo, and the same lunch. When someone called Rose, Violet would come too. And when they actually called Violet, Rose would toddle along. They were inseparable.
As they moved on to Primary school, Rose and Violet went to the same schools. At that time, they made a couple of other friends, but they were still “BFFs”. In class, they would pass notes, and whisper to each other when the teacher wasn’t looking. But Violet started falling behind in grades. As Rose was getting straight-As, Violet would only get Ds or Cs in her report card every semester. At first, it was alright, until they reached year five. Violet started getting envious of Rose. Before, the two were described as a rose and its thorns. Now, they were more distant. Rose was becoming more and more popular, and kept getting awards that Violet didn’t. One day, when Rose got the DUX of their grade, Violet snapped.
“Why, Rose, why do you have to be so perfect! Why am I the one that’s falling behind, why do you have to be the ‘know it all’, and the teachers’ pet?” Rose was surprised. She gasped, and walked away, the other girls following her like a moth attracted to a flame.
At high school, Rose got a private school scholarship. She and Violet hardly talked to each other anymore. They would nod a polite hello, or use each other’s pens, but there was no more passing notes and chatting during lunch. Rose would sit with the ‘popular’ group, while Violet sat alone. On the last day of primary school, the two hugged goodbye, and left. They never saw each other ever again.

Once apon a time there was a girl named Anya. She lived in an extravagant house with her dad (mother passed away). In memory her mother she always kept a doll in her hand, because her mother gave it to her before her death. This is why she always kept this close and never lost it. This toy always made her happy whenever she played with it.
One day she went clothes shopping with her dad, there she found a beautiful dress that she loved. As always she was carrying her precious doll. She went into the changing room and left the doll outside. When she finished dressing, she opened the changing room door, and her doll was not there!
She asked her dad if he had seen the doll he did not see it. Worry overcame all her thoughts “What if its gone forever”, “Will I remember mum again” she thought. They looked around everywhere franticly searching for the doll. After 3-4 hours they gave up searching and drove silently back home.
When they reached back home Arya rushed to her room sobbing. Her dad felt helpless, immediately his instincts kicked up when she heard Anya screaming with joy. He rushed up to her room and saw her hugging the doll with all her strength. While hugging the doll she knew she was hugging her mum.
But she still did not know how it got there.

Title: The Magic Hourglass
In the middle of the hot, windy desert, there was a small, dusty tent. Inside it, Athena sat quietly, holding a shiny hourglass that had once belonged to her mum. The glass was smooth and round, and the sand inside sparkled like shooting stars. It was the only thing left from her mum, who had disappeared on an adventure many years ago.
Athena came back every year to the same place, hoping to find a clue. She believed the hourglass was special. It wasn’t just a decoration—it felt like it had something to say. Every time she turned it, the sand would fall softly, like a soothing whisper. But today, something strange happened. The sand stopped.
Everything went still.
The hourglass almost looked like it was thinking, waiting with her. Athena’s heart thudded in her chest like a drum. The wind outside howled, and the tent flapped like giant wings. She remembered what her mum once said: “When time stops, you’ll know where to begin.”
Shaking, Athena looked around and saw a small bump under the floor of the tent. She dug with her hands and found a rusty, old tin box. Inside was a notebook—her mum’s journal, full of drawings, notes, and stories about her last journey. There were maps, strange symbols, and a message saying: “For Athena, when you are ready.”
The hourglass wasn’t broken. It had done its job.
It didn’t mean time was running out. It meant she had found what she was meant to. The hourglass had changed. It wasn’t just a memory anymore. It was a guide—a path forward.
Athena smiled through tears. She didn’t feel lost now. She felt ready.
Time hadn’t ended.
It had finally shown her where to start.

The Love story
I reluctantly woke up out of my undersized bed and realized it’s the first day of school. I jumped out of my bed with extremely numb and sore calves that made me ache throughout my mini journey to the bathroom. At the bathroom, I briskly grabbed my toothbrush and started shifting my brush up-down-side-side,-up-down-side-side,-up-down-side-side. My gums started to throb so I rushed to grab the flosser and I gently flossed my teeth but then out of nowhere My Mum shouted ‘Supper’s ready’. I quickly flossed my previously throbing teeth and took a massive leap downstairs which made me extremely frightened but I had to keep going. I took a brisk jog to the dining table and gobbled up my food like it was my last meal and asked Mum can we get ready now and she shouted ‘GO DO IT RIGHT NOW’ and so I began my journey to get ready. I briskly changed my clothes and packed my glorious Black Bag and I finally got permission from my Mother filled with madness to hop in the car with her.
I arrived at my new school and couldn’t take my eyes off this beautiful girl that also kept staring at me like I was famous and I had the confidence to ask her ‘can I get your number’ and she instantly replied with ‘of course what is it?’ and I dialed in my number with extreme joy. She whisperd to me ‘see you later!’ and I took off with extreme happiness and sat down in a corner to express my feelings on my own. I heard the bell and went to my classroom where I got seated right next to my crush and where my heart had started pounding As I sat down beside her, my heart pounded like a bass drum in a silent room. Every word she spoke felt like a melody playing just for me. We exchanged nervous smiles and gentle laughs as if we had known each other forever, though we’d only just met. The classroom buzzed with chatter, but it all blurred into the background. My world had narrowed down to just the two of us.
“So… do you think your parents would like me?” she asked with a mischievous grin, her eyes sparkling like they held a thousand secrets.
I chuckled, trying to play it cool, though my palms were sweating. “I think they’ll love you. What about yours?”
She leaned in slightly, her voice dropping to a whisper. “You might have to win my dad over. He’s protective… but if you can make my mum laugh, you’re in.” Challenge accepted. The rest of the school day flew by in a blur of stolen glances and scribbled notes passed beneath the desk. Each message, every shared smile, drew us closer together—as if fate had signed our names side by side in the margins of the universe.
After the final bell rang, we walked together through the school gates. The golden glow of the afternoon sun wrapped around us like a promise. We talked about everything and nothing—favourite movies, embarrassing moments, future dreams—and somewhere between the laughter and the silences, something real began to grow. As her ride pulled up, she turned to me, a strand of hair blowing across her face. “Same time tomorrow?” she asked. I nodded, barely able to contain the grin spreading across my face. “Definitely. ’She gave me a quick wave before stepping into the car, and I stood there for a moment, watching her disappear down the road, a strange warmth settling in my chest. That was the first day. The beginning of
something unexpected, something thrilling. A love story not written in fairytales, but in the quiet moments between heartbeats. And I knew—this was just the start. Our love kept going on-and-on-and-on until 60years later… she sadly passed away which made me terribly sad she was the only person who cared for me and loved me deepily with her now gone nothing was possible and that’s where our love story ended.
My first day of school
Today was the big day — my first day at a new school. My heart was pounding with a mix of excitement and nervousness. My backpack was packed with fresh smelling notebooks and pencils so sharp that they could cut paper as butter. My new shoes sparkled like diamonds. But inside me, my tummy felt funny – as if there were butterflies fluttering around wildly. I didn’t want to eat my toast; the butterflies filled the room in my belly. The butterflies made me nervous. I told my Mum, “I don’t want to go to school. What if I don’t make any friends?”
Mum knelt beside me, smiled and said gently, “It’s okay to feel nervous. Everyone gets butterflies on the first day. The butterflies mean you are brave and ready to encounter something new.” Even though I didn’t fully understand what she meant, I kept it as my lucky charm in my pocket.
At school, the butterflies started to flutter faster. There were so many kids moving around like marbles on a racetrack! Some were running, some were talking loudly, and some were looking just as nervous as me. Some clutched their parent’s hand, and one girl chewed her sleeve in the cold breeze.
Then I saw her, my new teacher, dressed in a bright dandelion dress with matching earrings. She was very nice and always smiled like sunshine. She chirped, “Good morning, everyone!” I tried to smile back even though mine wobbled. I had to sit at desks with kids I didn’t know. I looked around and spotted a girl sitting alone. She looked shy too.
I hesitantly walked over and said, “Hi, I’m new. Can I sit here?” She smiled and said, “Sure! I’m Lily. I was new last year, so I know exactly how you feel.” We started drawing pictures together: I drew a dog, and she drew a neat sea turtle. The whole class even read a story about sea animals. The teacher told me to read a part aloud. I stumbled on one word and my cheeks burned, but the teacher said, “Nice try!” That made me feel prouder.
At lunch, when I thought the day was going well, I dropped my delicious sandwich, butter side down. I felt sad and embarrassed. But Lily shared some of her lovely noodles, giving me an extra spoon. The noodles tasted so good that I was craving for more and more. That made me happy again.
After lunch, we played outside. I was still a little nervous, but I started to have fun playing hide and seek with other kids. By the end of the day, the butterflies in my belly didn’t go away completely, but they felt different. They felt like they were helping me get ready to fly — to try new things and be courageous.
Maybe the new school isn’t so scary after all and I’m going to like it here.
