Through the open breeze of the wind, Amanda stood on a steep hill. How long had she been traveling? She sat on a nearby rock, listening to the birds chirp. Below, she felt a slight growl coming from her stomach. She pulled out a bag of chips from her backpack and started chewing.
She looked into the distance—her home nowhere in sight. All she could see were trees and grass. The sun was slowly disappearing, and the sky had turned into a gradient of blue and red. Amanda began to panic. Dinner should be ready soon, and she was nowhere near home.
In a panic, she ran toward a nearby building she thought was her house, but as she got closer, she realized it wasn’t her home or even her street. Every second felt like a minute. Amanda wanted to burst into tears, but she worried it might disturb the quiet surroundings. She ran out onto the street. The streetlights turned on. Amanda was certain her parents had called the police. She knew they would be mad when she returned.
In front of her stood a school. It wasn’t her current school, but she recognized it—it was her old school. She couldn’t remember the way to her house, but she did remember the way to a street near hers.
So she began the journey, past a local cafe, through messy vines, until she reached the familiar street.
She sighed in relief for a moment and heard the birds chirping again. She walked down the street as some neighbors came out to say hi.
This time, she walked calmly, feeling the breeze touch her face.
She finally reached her street, took a deep breath, and entered her house.
“Hey dear, you just arrived in time for dinner!” her mum exclaimed.
Amanda felt a wave of relief wash over her. She promised herself she would never travel that far again.

One day, Bob was building his tree house, humming happily to himself as he heard the birds chirp in a relaxing rhythm while he hammered. Then, suddenly, Bob’s heart said something was wrong, so he got out of his tree house with his ladder as he got off the wooden plank, which broke away. He could have got brain damage or even worse, he died. Bob was relieved when his door broke.
This is a robber! Two thieves came in his horse. Bob got mad because he spent $7000 to buy that door, so he started to argue that the robbers have to pay for his door. Then the police arrived at the scene and arrested the robbers. Then, after a while, Bob started to sniff out gun powder and heard a sizzling sound, and before he could say anything, the police car exploded BOOMMM. The noise was ear-piercing, and it took a few seconds for him to notice the robbers were gone. The police were shocked as well since nobody in Robby takes this seriously, like having backup plans that can hurt the police.
So Bob starts to find the robbers himself for the revenge for the door he had. The next day Bob called his friends to his house and they went to buy some weapons. The problem is that you can’t buy a gun if you don’t have a driving licence, and Bob and his friends don’t have a gun licence, so they bought a few army knives, some torches and a medkit, then they went home to suit up. Soon, they found a weird place on his street that they didn’t know existed, so they wanted to go inside for a private meeting, but inside were the robbers he saw yesterday, armed with bats. They were as surprised as Bob and his friends were. Bob was first to react since he knew what the robbers looked like. They started to fight when two police officers came in with one of his friends, and the robbers looked dead as they got arrested. Then at court, the robbers pay for the fees for breaking Bob’s $7000 door.

The cat
I am out for a walk, buildings on either side of me, like bars of a cage. The sea in front, beautiful, blue and crystal clear. How far have I walked, where am I. My head starts to hurt, I should head home. And then I see it, that scruffy tabby, fur mangled, but eyes as pure as a flawless diamond. Sprinting across the gravel sidewalk, I pick the tabby up. It looks unnerved, licking its fur with no care in the world. I stumble back home carefull not to drop the cat, its fur feels soft but matted and knotted, obviously abandoned long ago. I linger around a bit longer, before deciding to not go back home till a little bit longer. The smell of salt sneaks into my nose, suddenly causing me to jump.
“Damn, sea salt burns,” I think to myself
The cat seems to be just fine, even though having an enhanced sense of smell. It jumps out of my hands sprinting into a nearby alleyway, I give chase, a dead end. I catch it again, it still seems to be fine with staying in my hands. The sun is setting, setting a gradient of red, yellow and purple across the sky. My parents are expecting me, I should probably head back so they don’t call the police.
I step inside, an aroma of vanilla washes over me.
“Oh no i forgot to put the cat away” My panicked self thinks
My mum walks in, she screams. The cat goes flying getting out of our house as fast as its little legs can carry it. I lean down to scratch my legs, I see a tick, the cat had ticks and now i have them too. This time instead of my mum I scream, sobbing and telling my mum that I got ticks from the cat.
My mum scolds me about stray cats and not picking anything up just because it looks cute. My mum was so overprotective she even made me have a tomato bath after I had the treatment for ticks. So lesson learned never ever pick up a stray cat or at that matter any stray animal.

Do you ever wake up feeling more tired than when you went to bed? Or find yourself struggling to focus in class, no matter how hard you try? If you didn’t know, those are warning signs saying that your body needs urgent sleep. Without sleeping, life can be really hard as it can make you lose activeness and will make you in the habit of being lazy and sleeping all day.
Most children, especially, need to sleep up to 8 to 10 hours a day. Lack of sleep doesn’t make you just dazed and lazy but also impairs your immune system, memory and increases the risk of anxiety and depression. Imagine trying to run a marathon without water. That’s what your brain does every day when it operates without rest. Isn’t it time you gave your mind and body the break they deserve?
So what happens when you have good sleeping habits? Many students perform better in their academics and it will make them feel more energised. Good sleep boosts your brain’s ability to think quicker and also to process and retain information.
Sleep can also affect your emotions When you’re sleep deprived, the part of your brain responsible for emotional control becomes less effective. That is the reason why most people become stressed, irritated, overwhelmed and especially sleepy. But when you sleep you will gain confidence, resilience and emotional strength .
So, what’s it gonna be? Another episode, another scroll through TikTok—or actually giving your body the sleep it’s been begging for?

Healthy sleeping
Do you get tired, even after a good breakfast? that’s probably because you don’t get enough sleep. Sleep is super important its how your body and brain recharges so you can feel fresh, happy and ready to learn.
When you sleep, you brain can sort through everything that happened that day. It’s like pressing the save button on your homework. If you don’t have a good night sleep it will be harder to concentrate in class and stay in a good mood. One sleep expert Matthew Walker said ‘sleep helps your brain build strong connections so you can learn better (Walker, 2009). So if you want to do well in school, sleep is a big help.
Sleep also helps your body stay strong and healthy. While you’re snoozing, your body is fixing muscles, fighting off germs, and helping you grow. Kids between 5- and 13-years old need about 9 to 11 hours of sleep every night to feel their best (Australian Department of Health, 2023). If you don’t get enough sleep, you might feel slow, grumpy, or even get sick more often.
So, what can you do to sleep better? Try going to bed at the same time every night—even on weekends. Turn off screens like tablets and TVs at least half an hour before bed. The light from screens can trick your brain into thinking it’s still daytime. Instead, you could read a book, listen to calm music, or do some drawing to help you relax.
Would you rather be grumpy and annoyed or refreshed and happy? Sleeping is a super power. It helps you feel awesome and do your best in studies. So tonight, give your body a good night and see how feel tomorrow. If you give your body what it needs then you WILL wake up feeling energetic refreshed and happy.
