The transition from Year 6 to high school is a significant leap. We make it feel smaller.

High school doesn’t slow down for students who arrive unprepared. New subjects, harder content, new ways of thinking. Students who walk in with strong foundations in English, Mathematics, and Science find Year 7 manageable, even enjoyable. Those who don’t spend the first six months catching up. The Year 6 High School Foundations Program closes that gap before it opens, with structured learning strategies, subject mastery, and the kind of critical thinking that thrives in high school.

Strong academic foundations across English, Maths, and Science

20 weeks of live instruction designed to build the critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills students need to thrive in high school. Confident, curious, and ahead of the curve, that’s how our students arrive.

Sound familiar?

“Year 6 has been easy. I’m worried about Year 7”

You’re right to be. The jump from primary to high school is the steepest transition in a child’s academic life: multiple teachers, new subjects, longer essays, harder maths, more independence required. Foundations builds the skills now, when there’s time and space to learn them properly.

“Their writing isn’t ready for Year 7 English”

Year 7 English suddenly demands TEEL paragraphs, evidence-based analysis, novel responses, creative voice. Students who only did short responses in primary fall behind quickly. Our English block builds analytical writing from Day 1, using novel studies of Hatchet and The Bone Sparrow.

“Maths is going to get a lot harder”

Year 7 introduces real algebra, equations, and abstract thinking. Students who only memorised procedures in primary struggle. We build the conceptual foundations: number fluency, algebra, equations, graphs, indices, the bridge from arithmetic to mathematical reasoning.

“They’ve never really done science properly”

Year 7 science covers an enormous spread: particle theory, mixtures, ecosystems, classification, forces. Without a framework, students memorise without understanding. We teach science as a way of thinking, connecting topics so they stick well before Year 7 begins.

Students enter high school confident, curious, and ahead of the curve. The skills built in Year 6 compound across all six years of high school. The right foundation in Term 3 and Term 4 shapes everything that comes after.

Our carefully structured curriculum covers essential skills.

English & Writing, Tuesday 5-6pm

Novel Study, Paragraph Craft & Exam Fluency

Students engage with two carefully chosen novels and the analytical writing skills that high school English demands. From TEEL paragraphs to creative voice, each week builds the foundations of confident, evidence-driven English work.

  • Novel Lenses: Hatchet by Gary Paulsen (survival, resilience), The Bone Sparrow by Zana Fraillon (hope, human rights)
  • Paragraph Craft: TEEL structure, purposeful evidence, cohesive flow
  • Creative & Persuasive Writing: Imagery, symbolism, authentic voice
  • Rapid SAQs & unseen-text drills for exam fluency
  • Close reading of language: figurative devices, tone, character
  • Comparative reading across two contrasting texts
  • Building writing stamina and confidence for Year 7 assessments
OutcomeStudents develop the analytical writing, evidence integration, and creative voice that defines strong Year 7 English from the very first term.
Mathematics, Thursday 5-6pm

Number Fluency, Algebra & Mathematical Modelling

The bridge from primary arithmetic to high school mathematical reasoning. We build conceptual fluency in the topics Year 7 demands, then drill them under exam conditions, so students don’t just answer questions but understand the maths beneath them.

  • Number Fluency & Arithmetic Foundations: Integers, decimals, fractions, percentages, equivalent forms, multi-step calculations
  • Algebra Foundations: Expressions, substitution, expanding brackets, collecting like terms, using algebra to represent number relationships
  • Factorising & Algebraic Modelling: HCF factorising, forming expressions from worded situations, modelling simple mathematical patterns
  • Linear Equations & Inequalities: Solving one-step and multi-step equations, extension equation problems, applying inequalities in real-world contexts
  • Coordinates, Graphs, Indices & Roots: Plotting points, interpreting simple linear graphs, recognising graph rules, using indices, working with square/cube roots
  • Revision & Consolidation: Targeted review weeks to strengthen accuracy, reduce common errors, and connect number, algebra, equations, and graphing skills
  • End-of-Term Mixed-Topic Mock + Personalised Coaching
OutcomeStudents develop the conceptual fluency and algebraic confidence that turns Year 7 mathematics from intimidating to enjoyable.
Science, Friday 5-6pm

Matter, Ecosystems, Forces & Scientific Thinking

Concise, concept-rich sessions that bridge primary basics to Year 7-8 depth. Science as a way of thinking, not a list of facts to memorise, so students enter high school confident, curious, and ahead of the curve.

  • Matter, Materials & Particle Theory: Properties of materials, states of matter, particle model, and changes between solids, liquids, and gases
  • Mixtures, Solutions & Separation Methods: Dissolving, concentration, filtration, evaporation, chromatography, sieving, magnetism, and other physical separation techniques
  • Ecosystems & Sustainability: Interactions between organisms, food chains and food webs, energy flow, human impacts, conservation, sustainable management
  • Classification of Living Things: Taxonomy, observable features, grouping organisms, adaptations, identifying similarities and differences between living things
  • Forces & Energy in Everyday Life: Pushes and pulls, friction, gravity, balanced and unbalanced forces, energy forms, energy transfers, conservation
  • Revision & Mixed-Topic Consolidation: Targeted review weeks, practical reasoning questions, end-of-topic feedback across matter, ecosystems, classification, forces, and energy
  • Cumulative Mock Exam + Feedback Roadmap
OutcomeStudents develop a connected, exam-ready understanding of science that builds confidence and curiosity ahead of Year 7.

Common Questions

Who is this program for?
The Year 6 High School Foundations Program is designed for Year 6 students preparing to start high school. It’s perfect for families who want to give their child a strong academic foundation across English, Mathematics, and Science before Year 7 begins, plus the critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills needed to thrive in high school.
How is this different from primary school work?
Primary school focuses on competency. This program focuses on the bridge to high school. English moves from short responses to TEEL paragraphs and novel-based analysis. Maths moves from arithmetic to algebra and mathematical modelling. Science moves from observation to particle theory, ecosystems, and scientific reasoning. Concise, concept-rich sessions that bridge primary basics to Year 7-8 depth.
What texts are studied in English?
This semester, students engage with two contrasting novels: Hatchet by Gary Paulsen (themes of survival and resilience) and The Bone Sparrow by Zana Fraillon (themes of hope and human rights). Both texts build the analytical and creative writing foundations Year 7 English assumes students have, including TEEL paragraphs, evidence integration, and creative voice.
What if my child can’t make a session?
All sessions are live and recorded, available for review up to 2 weeks post-session to reinforce learning. Homework is accessible through the Scholarly Learning Platform and tracked for completion. 7-day Success Coach support is available via WhatsApp, WeChat, Scholarly Ask, and phone, with answers within 24 hours.
How are classes delivered?
All sessions are live online classes, 60 minutes each, three times per week (English Tuesday, Mathematics Thursday, Science Friday, all 5:00 to 6:00pm). Sessions are delivered on the Scholarly Learning Platform with interactive features (polls, chat, screen sharing). Recorded for catch-up. Parents have visibility into homework completion and progress through the Scholarly Learning Platform.
What’s included beyond the live classes?
In-class learning support through Lana and iDoubt (instant Q&A help during lessons). 7 AM Club early risers club to build discipline. Challenges & Awards to keep momentum high. Up-to-date materials reflecting the latest WEMT and Trial Test insights. Detailed percentile rankings & reports. 7-day Helpline for questions outside class time.
