  1. Culinary Corner Canteen
A worker opens the shutters. The smell of sausage rolls and lasagne seeps outside the window. Someone flips their pan artistically, as two burly, jock-like-looking men roll in boxes after boxes of already-made mac ‘n’ cheese. The 8:40 bell rings, and students start pouring into the school. All the workers and volunteers shuffle in the small kitchen, trying to get everything ready for lunch and recess. As the inspector glared around at everyone, they all felt a shiver down their spine. Her grey hair was neatly pinned into a small bun, as she peered into her spectacle. She frowned, her pointy nose bunched up into a knot. Her dull, black lipstick clashed with the pink dress and stockings that she had on. She strutted away on her high heels, snickering, and stomping, her arms crossed, and her fist clenched. The warmth of the pizza filled the air, and the aroma wafted into everyone’s noses.
“ 4W?” one of the ladies called at recess“Any lunch tub monitor from 4W? Anyone? No? Then 5B? Yes, off you two go,” The same happened at lunch. After nearly twenty minutes of calling out classes, the ladies finally go into the kitchen, sighing, until all the children rush up the hill to get their icy treats. As soon as all the students disappear, the workers all turn on “handy-man-mode”, as they roll out all the boxes, and tidy up the leftovers, ready for tomorrow, but their “long haul journey” is not done yet today.

Title – The Heart of the Canteen Workers
The sizzle of steaming oil meets the early morning air as steam rises from the stovetops like breath on a winter window. It’s barely 6:00 AM, but the school canteen is already awake, not with noise, but with purpose.
The soft clatter of trays, the soothing hum of the oven, and the quiet shuffle of aprons brushing past each other create a gentle tune. The air is warm, almost cozy, wrapping around the canteen workers like a soft blanket. The smell of fresh brownie mixes with the faint scent of onions being thinly chopped, tickling the nose and making eyes water, though no one complains.
In the back corner, hands move quickly, slicing fruit for a fruit bowl with the same care as a painter filling in the final strokes of a canvas. Every cheese pizza made, every plastic cup stacked, is a quiet act of service. The canteen doesn’t just prepare delicious food, it prepares the day for hungry students.
While the rest of the school is still sleeping, maybe even yawning awake, the Canteen workers are already halfway through their morning. Their work is mostly unnoticed, but it starts everything, from the first bite of crispy chips at recess to the last shared laugh over lunch.

  4. Day 8 Homework Writing:
As the schools frosty gates opened in the freezing morning, while the children busted in with a grin. The canteen, the canteen is the a paradise of food, the canteen’s door slowly creaked, shining at the daylight. It was now open for business! As a sizzling noise buzzed through the day the aroma of the bubbling oil soaked into the air. The canteen men sprung into action, making all the delicious crispy treats for the children. All kinds of desserts were made in that same kitchen, all of the sweets were loved by everyone.

Suddenly, as the school bell swayed back and forth as a signal to the children to go to first period. While the students took their papers and pencils all they could think of what they were going to buy at the canteen. Then as the children walked back into the classroom, a sweet scent soothing the air went through their noses. It was the smell of the tasty food they were going to eat, after hours of painful work.

DING DING DING, the school bell rung with all it’s might telling the students it was lunch! Stomping feet came out of the classroom and out onto the playground. One by one the children gathered a line, as they stood like soldiers, they got served with hot, delicious, mouth-watering treats. The canteen was like a bank, where you give money to receive food.

As the students rushed up to their classes, the canteen started to close, the sizzling oil aroma faded away, as the buzzing sound disappeared into the day. The dirty rubbish and oil stained shirts were now put in the bin, then as the door that had gleamed in the moonlight was now shut! Then the sweaty, tired men now had a day off and could finally rest.

DING DING DING, the school bells final call for the day has finally come, as the children can now leave school and go out into the world. CREAK. The school gates opened and all the students rushed out like a stampede. As the school canteen relaxed, until the very next day.

  5. Long before the bell
The canteen was awake at 6:30 am, long before the first locker slams, laughter echoes through the corridor and the schools metal gates even open. The cooks moved in a fast and quiet way. The biting of the chilly morning breeze bundled them in hats, jackets and scarves in the -2 degrees weather. The fought it by the steam of the delicious food in the air. The aroma of hot dogs, burgers, fries, soda, pizza and cheesy mac and cheese made the air smell exactly like what a canteen should be like—warm, tasty, and alive. The scent was so aromatic, it makes your mouth water. The pan sizzling near the fire kind of sounded like fireworks in New Year Eve. The sparks below the pan looked like shooting stars Each making a silent wish. The tiled walls seemed smooth like the canteen cooks cooking. It even had a colorful canteen menu with lots of different types of food.
In the menu, it said that the food is really good that you might want 1000000 of each dish. What’s even more impressive? They serve high quality food for a low price like 50 cents to a dollar! Cute little creatures like ants came to join in eating the food. They sneakily take little munches of bread, cheese and sauces. That is exactly why some of the bread is munched up, or a little bit of your sauce has gone missing. Now you know who to blame. It’s not just a canteen that prepares food. They do hard work, making the most delicious food ever. So, when the school gates creak open and footsteps echo down the hallway, the canteen is already alive — a place where the day begins long before the gates open.
