HAST Selective Re-Entry • Sprint
Five weeks. The final sprint that finishes the weekyour child walks into the test.
A premium five-week preparatory experience tailored for the Higher Ability Selection Test (HAST) in New South Wales. Daily holiday classes through 6 to 17 July, then twice-weekly evening sessions 22 July to 7 August. Advanced reasoning training across all HAST domains, with live and recorded lessons available up to two weeks post-class.
5-week Sprint structure
Two phases. One deadline.
Phase 1 runs daily through the July holidays, alternating between the two subject blocks. Phase 2 returns to two evening sessions a week through Term 3, finishing the day before HAST. Same subject grouping in both phases: language and abstract reasoning together on one day, mathematical and scientific reasoning on the other.
Phase 1 • 6–17 July
Phase 2 • 22 July–7 August
Reading group
Phase 1: 9 AM • Phase 2: 5 PM
Reading Comprehension, Written Expression & Abstract Reasoning
Maths group
Phase 1: 9 AM • Phase 2: 5 PM
Mathematical & Scientific Reasoning
Full timetables for both phases shown below. Sixteen live online classes in total across the 5-week Sprint, all with recordings available for review up to 2 weeks post-class.
What the HAST measures
A selective test that rewardsclear thinking, not memorised tricks.
Students do well in the HAST when they can read closely, interpret information carefully, solve unfamiliar problems, and communicate ideas with control.
The challenge of the HAST is not just difficulty. It is the combination of different reasoning modes within one exam. Students move from extended reading to applied mathematical and scientific thinking, then into abstract logic, and finally into timed written expression. Each section asks for a different kind of mental control.
That is why preparation needs to be specific. Generic tutoring may improve confidence in schoolwork, but it rarely trains the mix of stamina, accuracy, flexibility, and writing discipline that this paper demands.
The HAST is most manageable when students understand the structure, recognise the question patterns, and know how to stay composed as the paper changes gear.
Test-focused positioningGood preparation does not just teach content. It teaches students how to think under time pressure, recover from uncertainty, and keep quality high across the full paper.
Program rationaleHAST component breakdown
Four components, each testing adifferent form of academic control.
We start by making the paper clear. Once students understand the structure, they can build the section-specific habits that lift performance. Each component is trained directly through targeted reasoning labs, writing workshops, and timed mock tests.
| Component | Focus areas |
|---|---|
| Reading Comprehension | Inferential reasoning, synthesising ideas, and discerning complex text subtleties. |
| Mathematical Reasoning | Multi-step problem-solving involving logic, quantities, and conceptual math reasoning. |
| Abstract Reasoning | Non-verbal patterns, analogical thinking, and sequence detection across visual stimuli. |
| Written Expression | Crafting coherent, compelling discursive and creative responses under time constraints. |
Why HAST preparation needs to be deliberate
The strongest results come when students practise the exact mix of reading stamina, applied reasoning, pattern recognition, and written control that the HAST requires. That combination is too specific to leave to broad tutoring alone, and it rewards focused training across all four components together.
The Sprint Schedule
Five weeks. Sixteen live classes.All-in. Test-day ready.
The Sprint is built around a single deadline: HAST test day in early August. Two intense weeks of daily holiday classes build mastery, then three weeks of targeted twice-weekly classes through Term 3 lock in pacing and exam strategy. Every class is small-group and live online, with full recordings available for review up to 2 weeks post-class.
Phase 1 • July Holidays
Daily Sprint
Monday 6 July to Friday 17 July 2026
Two weeks of daily one-hour classes (10 sessions). Reading, written expression and abstract reasoning on three days each week. Mathematical and scientific reasoning on the other two. Builds depth, rhythm and pacing.
Phase 2 • Term 3
Twice-Weekly Tune-Up
Wednesday 22 July to Friday 7 August 2026
Three weeks of twice-weekly evening classes (6 sessions). Wednesdays for reading, written expression and abstract reasoning. Fridays for mathematical and scientific reasoning. Targeted gap closure heading into the test.
