Crash!
Liam’s pencil case hit the floor with a loud bang. He stared in shock, not at the case, but at his shadow, which had knocked it off his desk.
It was a sunny Tuesday morning, and Liam had just woken up. Everything seemed normal, until he noticed his shadow waving at him from the wall. At first, he laughed. “Very funny,” he said, thinking his eyes were playing tricks. But when he brushed his teeth, his shadow stuck out its tongue. When he got dressed, it spun in circles.
Something was wrong.
At school, things got worse. Liam’s shadow copied the teacher and made silly faces during maths. His friends giggled, but Liam didn’t. He got in trouble for “being cheeky” even though he wasn’t doing anything. He didn’t know what to say. How do you explain that your shadow has a mind of its own?
“Why are you doing this?” Liam whispered in the playground. His shadow just danced on the ground, shaking its head. Liam didn’t understand. Shadows were meant to follow, not lead.
That night, a storm rolled in. Rain tapped the windows, and thunder rumbled like a hungry belly. Liam sat in bed, thinking. Was he losing his mind?
Suddenly, a flash of lightning lit up his room. Liam gasped. His shadow was standing by the window, not on the floor, and not connected to his feet.
It turned and pointed to his desk, where a crumpled letter lay. Liam hadn’t finished it. It was an apology to his best friend Max. They’d argued last week, and Liam had never said sorry. His shadow picked up the pen and pointed again.
Liam finally understood.
His shadow wasn’t bad, it was trying to help him do the right thing.
He grabbed the pen and finished the letter. The moment he wrote the last word, the shadow stepped back into place. It followed him again, quietly and calmly.
The next morning, Liam handed the letter to Max.
“Thanks,” Max said, smiling.
Liam smiled too. As they walked to class, the sun followed them, and so did their shadows, just as they should.
It was like any other Tuesday morning – the wind was blowing its cool, autumn breeze, and our front porch was coated with papery, amber leaves. Yet something about me felt wrong, and I couldn’t quite place my finger on what it was. As I went downstairs to have breakfast, I just really felt like something was wrong. Really, really wrong. I just didn’t know what it was! That’s when I noticed something out of the corner of my eye move, just the slightest. Then, I stared at the shelf, suspecting that was what it was. Or maybe I was just going crazy. All that homework surely fuzzes your brain up.
As I turned back to eat my cereal, I couldn’t help but think that I wasn’t hallucinating. Something was definitely wrong, and I could feel it. I turned back and looked at the shelf, and that’s when I watched my shadow start moving(in full daylight mind you!). My spoon clattered to the ground, cutting through the ominous silence. Then, I heard something, like a whisper.
“Don’t worry”
Don’t worry? Why would I worry? This day is just getting weirder and weirder.
I ran to the bus, just making it in time by the skin of my teeth. That’s when I noticed something else. The sun was shining from the East, which means my shadow should be to my left, right? The thing is, it wasn’t. I frantically looked around, searching under seats, bags, and even tapping on this one guy because I thought he was my shadow. I flopped down on a chair, giving up on the search for my shadow. What was the point anyways? It wasn’t like I needed one…right?
Great. My shadow is still missing and I’m late for school, probably for the hundredth time this year. When I arrived, of course, I was met by the Deputy Principal for a pit-stop for being late(probably because it was for the hundredth time this year, as I said before). My luck. Then I started the walk of shame down the hall to the Principal’s office. That was the last thing I needed.
I sat down in an elegant, velvet chair, and looked down, twiddling my thumbs. The Principal began to talk to me about the consequences of being late and he went on and on and on, and my mind began to drift. Suddenly, I saw something move behind him. I wanted to slap my forehead so badly. Obviously, my shadow decides it’s the right time to show up and go crazy behind my Principal’s back. No surprise there.
“Do you understand?” the principal’s booming voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
“Err yes?” I replied, hesitantly.
“Mhmm, so what did I say?” he said passive-aggressively.
Our conversation went on for a long time, and at one point, I seemed to remember when my shadow said “Don’t worry”, so I didn’t, and surprisingly, it didn’t turn out as badly as I thought. Apparently, my parents received an email saying that I had tested positive for a disorder called ADHD, which means I get distracted easily and can’t focus well. The principal seemed to understand this, and moved me to a special class where I wouldn’t get in trouble for being late and they would cater to my needs.
I was happy from then on, in my special class. A day later, I saw that my shadow was back in place, and I couldn’t help wondering whether it was trying to tell me something. It has never gone rogue since then, and I was glad about that. My personal moral of the story – bad things may just be a blessing in disguise.
As I woke up, I stretched lazily, finally forcing myself to get up and open the curtains. I looked down, expecting to see my copycat shadow, but it was, surprisingly, not there, but in fact at the other side of my bedroom! As I watched it scurry across my bedroom curiously, looking into every nook and tucked-away corner, my jaw dropped. How was… surely not… this couldn’t be real! Panic started flooding through my veins as I watched it not mimic but tear away from me and doing whatever it pleased. As my anxiety turned into indignation, I cried ‘Hey! Get back here!’ . My shadow looked at me with a startled expression, and then started waving its hands around, gesturing frantically. My initial response was to act tough, reply with a flare of annoyance. However, another half of me, a sympathetic one, wanted to help it. That side won. I took a deep breath and released it. It felt good ; like releasing my anger. ‘Okay. You obviously have something you want to tell me. Correct?’ I asked my shadow, who nodded furiously. Okay, we needed a way to communicate… suddenly, I got an idea so bright that it could light up the whole town. Sign language, I explained to my shadow, asking if it knew it. It hesitated, then nodded. I knew it too, from my deaf little sister. Having her around meant sign language was the only way to talk to her. My shadow started performing a series of signs, impressing me. Maybe shadows weren’t just annoying little copycats after all, I mused. But… the signs said… ‘CITY IN GREAT DANGER. EARTHQUAKE EARTHQUAKE DEATH DEATH WE NEED HELP.’ ? That was… quite unsettling. But… how did my shadow know? Then a solution came to me, fast as a lightning bolt. The rustling noises in my bedroom at night. The open windows. The leaping sounds. It all made sense now. ‘Okay,’ I said to my shadow.
‘Let’s go be heroes. Together!’ I crowed proudly. The shadow put on a brave expression and struck a heroic pose. We could do this. We had to… for the sake of the city.
As soon as my car got close to the city, I could already feel the tremors. They were not too strong, but I worried that some people may not survive : especially down on the ground. Even though they were not too strong, they were already causing some damage. I saw cars with broken windshields and houses with no doors and skyscrapers with no windows. But I saw a disaster : a baby from the top of a skyscraper had fallen, but so had an elderly man! I couldn’t help both of them… but then, my shadow appeared, preparing to catch the man. I nodded, and dashed like a bullet to the position of the baby. Swoosh… thunk! I landed in a heap, the baby crawling on me. I laughed. Suddenly, two frantic parents came rushing over. They thanked me for about 5 minutes for saving their child. ‘It’s ok, that’s what heroes do,’ I smiled. My shadow was getting even more attention! After an hour of interviews, we headed home. I grinned at my shadow, which grinned back. Maybe shadows don’t always need to copy you, but help you!
DING, DING, DING, DING, DING! I heard my annoying alarm clocked and chucked a pillow at it. The ringing bells throughout the pillow of. DING, DING, DING! I moaned and pulled the blankets over my head. The clock shot some tennis balls at me, which it was programmed to do if I don’t get up. Yawning I sat up and turned it off. It was only then when I realized that my shadow was missing.
Where is it? I look around. The golden rays of the morning sun were streaming into my window. My shadow should be behind me, but it had disappeared. Peering out of the window, I saw a black me running up and down hills. I could have sworn I heard it shout, “I’m FREE!” I pulled on pants and a shirt and sprinted off after my runaway shadow. Unwelcoming thoughts kept on worming their way into my mind. “What would my friends think when they see I have no shadow?” “Will they call me a weirdo?” “What if I never catch my shadow?” “What would my parents think of me, losing my own shadow?” I stopped running, panting hard. I had a stitch and it was hurting a lot.
Up ahead, I caught a glimpse of a black foot running into a darkening cave. I felt my spirits drop. It was going to be impossible to find a shadow in there. Even so, I tore into the cave after my shadow, and stopped dead. It wasn’t a dark, gloomy cave like I had thought. It was an amethyst cave. The purple crystal winked at me from all sides. I had never explored this part of our land. No wonder my parents wanted it so much. We lived on the edge of a merry country, surrounded by hills, and a little further, forest. I walked slowly through the cave, not wanting to disturb anything in such a beautiful cave. I reached a fork. I had lost sight of my shadow. I contemplated if I should head back, forget about the shadow, but I dismissed the thought immediately.
Peering into the left one, I saw a dead end. I wondered if shadows could walk through walls, but then, it would have done so earlier. I started to walk faster as the right path began sloping up and up until the blinding sun blocked my eyes. I peered around. There it was. My shadow, trying to start a fire. It had not seen me. I realized that I had been so intent on finding the shadow, I had not though what to do when I finally found it. So I did what came to my mind first. I lunged forward and touched my shadow.
It felt like my finger had been surrounded by ice. Before the shadow turned fainter and attached itself behind me once more. Though I think I saw it giggle as I turned away, and headed home.
Eli was having a very ordinary morning. He had brushed his teeth, ate breakfast, and was now ready to go to school. Suddenly, as he reached the door, he noticed that his usually sturdy shadow was shaking, almost as if it was glitching. It became a whirlpool of black, not obeying the laws of physics.
Then, just as suddenly as it had started, the shadow stopped. Eli looked at the ground, perplexed, but he just dismissed it as a figment of his imagination. He was tired, and his mind was likely making up things.
He eventually reached school, and as he sat down at his table, he realised that his shadow was repeating the act again. As it shaked and swirled, his eyes grew more focused, staring intently at his own shadow. “Eli! Is your test paper on the floor?” his teacher yelled, and Eli nearly fell out of his chair. “But Miss, my shadow…” he protested. “Yes? What’s wrong with your shadow? Is it dancing?” his teacher chuckled. Eli bit his lip to stop himself from arguing. She just didn’t get it!
When the lunch bell rang, Eli was more than relieved. He bolted out the door and into the playground. Yet again, his shadow had started to act up. But this time… this time something was different. The shadow wasn’t following Eli – it had developed a “mind of its own.” Then, Eli noticed that the shadow was trying to tell him something. Slowly, it raised a shaky hand, and ran off into the distance. Eli, partly amusement and partly baffled. The shadow had gone outside the school’s gates, and was now signalling for Eli to follow.
Eli put down his lunchbox, checked that there were no teachers, and dashed for the gates with a speed that would’ve made a cheetah proud. The shadow produced something that looked partly like a thumbs up, and kept going. Eli followed, panting and dripping sweat. As he ran further away from the school, he realised that his shadow was taking Eli to somewhere remote, somewhere which was off limits, somewhere –
Eli gasped. His shadow had taken him to a bombing underground bunker. He stepped through the iron door, and slammed it shut behind him. The strangely large passageway before him was warmly light with lamps. He took cautious steps, and found himself in an abandoned kitchen, stacked with crackers, ham, burgers, chips and –
“KABOOM!”
A deafening roar of noise shook the sturdy bunker. Eli gasped, and ran back to the door. He opened what felt like millions of bolts and locks, and peeped outside. It was pure chaos. Families were running to and fro, struggling to escape the bombs and missiles coming from the sky. Then, Eli saw his mother and his little sister running. “Eli!” they called. “Mama!” Eli yelled, ushering them inside the shelter, and then slamming the door shut. As he did the locks, his mother recounted her story. “Saja saw smoke and planes in the distance, and she warned me,” at that, Eli’s mother stopped to kiss Saja’s cheek.
Eli snatched a look behind him, and saw his shadow. It was waving, and nodding slowly, and then it walked off into the distance. He silently thanked the good fortune that had gifted him the shadow.
“So we ran and ran to find shelter,” his mother continued. “Then we found you…” she wrapped her arms around Eli, and smothered him with kisses. “Dad?” he asked. His mother shook her head.
Together, the family wept, tears of gratitude, longing, sadness, mourning, love, and all the other feelings words could never describe.
It was a usual Friday morning when Emme woke up with the hot summer breeze from her open window. She got dressed and ate breakfast for school as always, but she felt that something was wrong, she felt different. Emme didn’t think much because she would be late for school.
As she sprinted to school, she looked down, expecting her shadow to be sprinting with her, but instead her shadow was gone. Emme looked around for her shadow. When she spotted it in front of her, she chased it all the way to school without hesitation. Emme was going to follow her shadow somewhere else when the bell rang. She had to go to class.
At recess, Emme asked her shadow why it was running away when she remembered her shadow couldn’t talk! She quickly grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil from her drawing kit(which she always brings with her). Emme gave the pencil and paper to it, and it wrote ‘Follow me’. Emme did what it said, but she never expected to be out of school!
They soon entered a narrow walkway( about 20 cm)through buildings as she found her best friend, Lia, stuck in the gap between.
‘Help!’ Lia shouted.
‘Don’t worry, Lia, I’ll help you!’ replied Emme.
But Emme was sideways, so she couldn’t do much. Suddenly, she remembered something, her shadow could help! As they worked together, Lia soon returned to school with Emme, they were right on time for the class bell.
‘Thanks a..,’ before Emme could thank her shadow, it had already returned to being her shadow again.
Emme then realised that her shadow wasn’t being naughty but warning her of danger.
When the sun shone brightly over the horizon, I walked around in the park with my dog. As usual, she barked at the other dogs and chase after them. We ran together home, exhausted and tired. As I lowered my head panting and thirsty, I was surprised what I saw. My shadow wasn’t following me and kept pointing at something. What was wrong? Throughout the day, I get more intrigued about my shadow and how it can move on its own.
I decided to follow the directions of my shadow. As I walked further into the forest, the deafening silence filled the area. The shadow led me to a large cave. I was afraid of the dark and gulped as I walked in the entrance of the cave. I continued walking with a torch light to see it. But this made it scared. Each time I shone the light on it, it would disappear into the darkness. With bravery and courage, I continued walking deeper and deeper into the darkness.
After hours and hours of walking, I noticed I didn’t know where I was. I slumped to the ground and looked for my shadow. When the bright light shone on the wall the shadows waved at me and forming letters that read: our shadow is stuck in your shadow box, the only way to get it out is to make him happy. What do I do? My shadow wants to stay here with his friends, and I want to go back to my home.
Just as I was about to give up, the shadow had enough happiness to unlock the trap and release him into the wild. From dragging me here allowed him to see his friends making him feel positive. He smiled happily and went away with his friends. Each day I go to the cave and visit my new shadow friend, and we play games and have great fun together.
CHIRP! CHIRP! CHIRP!
As she walked the empty halls in the early morning, an odd chill in the air gave her the sense that something bad was going to happen. A twitch of something dark made her come back to her senses. She walked on in the coldness that surrounded … wait what? She stopped, curiosity and dread overwhelming her.
‘Did my shadow just move?’ she whispered to herself. In mere curiosity, she spun around, and her jaw dropped at the sight of, of what?
Helen’s shadow was dancing around cheerily, with absolutely no sense of what was happening. Then, the worst came, people came rushing out of their dorms for ‘Early wake time’ She couldn’t just hold her breath, she HAD to get rid of this, this, this what do you even call it?
‘ Stop dancing, people are going to think I’m weird’ she breathed with a hint of violence at her wild shadow. The shadow immediately stiffened and then stuck out her tongue and began dancing AGAIN. Everyone around stared at her in shock.
In math class, her surrounding classmates were murmuring furiously about what had happened at the hall. Out of the blue, Helen’s shadow stole her pencil and started to write words that could barely be eligible, but she could still read it. ‘Your friend Leah is in danger, go to cafeteria’. She stopped breathing, unable to think. However, her shadow was right. Helan hadn’t seen Leah this whole morning.
‘umm… miss? can I please go to the bathroom?’ she said in pure desperation in hope of escaping class.
‘If you have to, then yes’ her teacher sighed as she continued to finish the lesson.
‘Come on shadow and let’s go save my bestie!’ she smiled at it, and for the first time, she felt grateful for it.
Helen ran, faster than ever, with her shadow huffing and puffing and hardly able to catch up behind her. She stopped to a halt, as they reached the front doors of the cafeteria, they were closed as usual. Her mind raced, searching for answers. DING! Helen quickly pulled a picklock out of her pocket and scrambled to aggresively pick at the lock. CLICK! It was unlocked, she rushed in, only to pause at the sight of fresh blood, pouring from beneath the kitchen door. Hesitantly, she opened it.
Inside, Leah was whimpering, and a mysterious hooded figure was standing above her, a knife only inches away from her throat. She didn’t know what to do, no nothing. She stared in shock as fresh drops of blood spilled out of Leah’s skin and yet, Helen was rooted to the cold, marble ground. All of a sudden, her shadow rapidly knocked the man to the ground with a kick. She began to breathe again but it wasn’t over, not yet. Her shadow gestured for her to take her friend and go. Taking signal, she grabbed Leah’s arm and ran for the exit that seemed so far. She looked back, seeing her shadow begin to take out its best karate and kung fu moves. Helen chuckled, but still in gratitude for her brave fighting warrior, her shadow.
The luminescent golden ray of light interrupted the pitch black sky. Tom yawned and gazed out the window only to find a shadow, not any shadow, his shadow sitting on the ledge of the window! Tom opened his mouth to scream until the shadow somehow said:
“About time you woke up! I thought you were in a deep sleep for a hundred years, just like Sleeping Beauty!”
Tom’s eyes enlarged and his mouth gaped.
“What? Cat got your tongue?”the shadow mocked.
“I um no. But how a-are you a-a-alive? Am I delusional right now or am I still dreaming?” stuttered Tom.
“Does it look like you are dreaming or delusional? No, I am here right now talking to you.” replied the shadow as it folded its arms. Then Thomas, not acknowledging the shadow’s existence shakes his head and starts to pack his things for school. He ignores the shadows yowling and plods to school with his shadow trailing behind him. Everywhere he went people stared at his shadow wondering what in the world? When Tom arrived at school he started to hear people whispering about his shadow which didn’t copy what Tom was doing instead doing the opposite. Then the bullies came up and say:
“Huh your shadow is. As weird as you!” exclaimed the bully until the shadow punched him and screamed some rude words at him and finished him off with a push. The bully scrambled to his feet and bolted to the classroom screeching:
“I WANT MY MUMMY WAHHHH!”
Tom then glanced at the shadow with new eyes and thanked him fiercely.
Everyday after that they all knew not to disrespect Tom or they would face the consequences.
Or will they?
Tom jolted awake from his alarm and stared out the window and saw the sunny meadow before him. Then he glanced at his shadow and who could have sworn waved at him.

Briiiiiiiiiiiiing! Jim’s alarm clocked screeched at him to wake up. He groggily jolted upright and rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. His stomach grumbled voraciously, as if he hadn’t eaten in months. Today was his first day of school, and he was already late. He hobbled drowsily out of bed and hastily dressed up in his pristine uniform. Rays of golden sunlight beamed into his window and he glimpsed outside. Then he saw what he figured to be his shadow. “Wait, what?’ Jim was astonished, puzzled and curious all at once. He then imminently realised the loss of his shadow. It was merrily galloping around the meadows, humming and scatting. Jim threw open the fragile window and screamed at the top of his lungs.
When Jim arrived at his school, all panic stricken and heart racing in fear, he stepped out and greeted his friends. Hi knees trembled and he spoke in short bursts. His eyes enlarged and he simply walked away without speaking. Later that day, in class, Jim was questioned by his classmates. He desperately wished a hole would instantly emerge from the ground and swallow him up. The embarrassment turned his cheeks a bright shade of red when asked about his shadow. He attempted to explain, but it was futile. His cheeks gushed and he felt butterflies fluttering rapidly in his stomach. Then, his shadow appeared and all the bullies backed away. It started to move as if it had a mind of its own. It walked alongside him, and supported him whenever he needed it. But Jim was still confused. On day he inquired who his shadow was. It just nodded and beckoned him to follow. It gestured that it had detached from him and decided to be free. But it still felt an overwhelming sense of sympathy. It wished to help Jim and aided him. Then his shadow and Jim had an idea. Last night, on the news Jim heard that a tsunami in the coast had devastated many areas and some were still being affected. His shadow agreed to help rescue some people and assist them, just like how others assisted him when he was a child, and survived a fire.
Together, the duo eagerly faced dangers and rescued many, saving lives and repaying a favour. CRAAAAAAAASH! Jim heard a deafening crash and looked up. There, overhead was a small child dangling over a wrecked apartment. They called for help and joined the junior rescue forces. Jim scaled the tremendously high wall and his shadow tossed a rope over and belayed him. Before all this, Jim had dreamed to become a rescue officer and this was his reality. His shadow held on securely and pulled hard. Jim had the baby rested on his shoulder. He leapt off the roof and landed safely on a sponge mattress. The child’s parents came and hugged the child, and lectured to me why there should be more kids like me in this world.
I felt a beaming sense of pride and was interviewed on the news. Everyone claimed that I was a hero but I knew that it would be impossible without my handy shadow. That night, my shadow escaped. I felt like crying my eyes out, but held the tears back. My shadow was helpful, but had to leave. That night, I slept disheartened, but glad for my comrade.
On a perfectly sunny day, I was sitting on the swing that was in my beautiful backyard. The grass was lush and mowed, the trees’ leaves were dancing and twirling in the warm hugging breeze. As I was sliding off the swing, I noticed a figure moving on the grass. I was a bit puzzled but I had to pack my bag for the ‘SpellersSpellingBee®’.
But as soon as I stepped forward the silhouette kept on going with me. I realised that wherever I faced it would linger around me. I walked to the door and put on my shoes. I spotted my i-pad on the kitchen desk, and put it in my bag to clear my curiosity of the figure. I hopped in the car with my mum and then researched on my i-pad. After my quick search, I discovered that it was called a ‘shadow’ and that it was normal for it to be behind or next to you you. I felt relieved that I learnt something new.
After some time we had reached the most prestigious centre for spelling bees. My aim was to come first place. The comp had started but then my shadow wasn’t being a shadow. It was swirling about and dancing when they called me to the stage. The figure then went up to the stage. I quickly ran trying to retrieve my shadow.
Rounds and rounds of intense spelling passed, I kept on getting bombarded with crazy words and also words like ‘future’, ‘winner’, and ‘trophy’ but succeeded. That had rung a bell that it was my biggest wish to be a winner. I was on a 49 word streak until I fumbled the word ‘runner-up’.
The comp ended and I sat on my assigned seat. I was praying to be the winner but instead I was called up as a runner-up for being second place. I ran up the miniature staircase feeling happy and sad. I stood on the podium dryly and looked at the floor. Excitement rose up as I spotted the moving shadow! It curved and looped and landed on the ‘winner’.
All of a sudden the host made an announcement saying that the ‘winner’ was disqualified because he lied about his age, helping him attain 50/50! Then my chest swelled with pride as I was officially crowned ‘CHAMPION!”
Then I realised that the shadow predicted everything! Every step, what’s ahead and who will be the winner was all in front of me!

The Shadow’s Secret
Elliot woke up to the usual morning routine—the sun streaming through his window, the distant hum of traffic outside, and the warmth of his cozy blanket. But as he stretched, something felt… off.
He glanced at the wall, where his shadow was supposed to be mimicking his movements. Instead, it was already standing—arms crossed, tapping its foot impatiently. Elliot blinked. Maybe he was still dreaming?
“Uh… morning?” he tried, cautiously waving.
His shadow sighed and rolled its eyes. Then, to Elliot’s horror, it pointed at his desk with urgency. A crumpled note lay there, one he had meant to deliver days ago but never did.
He picked it up and unfolded it. “Apology Letter to Sam.” Right—he and Sam had fought over something ridiculous last week, and Elliot never got around to saying sorry.
Just as he finished reading, his shadow stomped its foot and pointed again—this time at the door.
“You want me to—go?” Elliot whispered.
The shadow nodded.
Without another thought, Elliot grabbed his backpack, stuffed the note inside, and sprinted out the door. When he reached Sam’s house, he hesitated, heartpounding. But his shadow, standing on the pavement beside him, gave him an encouraging thumbs-up.
Taking a deep breath, Elliot knocked.
When Sam opened the door, his expression softened. “Hey.”
“I—uh—I wanted to say sorry,” Elliot blurted, handing over the note.
Sam took it, read it quickly, then smiled. “Thanks, man.”
As they exchanged a relieved handshake, Elliot noticed his shadow flicker for a second—then settle back behind him like normal.
It had done its job.
As Roger got up from a blissful sleep, he watched through the window out into the sunlight. He had only 5 hours of sleep, though, and he was imagining lots of things. Such as his dream – an ogre had chased him around the bend of a road and he woke up. What sort of dream was that?? He went off to the bathroom to brush his teeth. Roger had this weird habit of saying ‘Hi’ to inanimate objects. Such as his toothbrush, the sink, and even his dancing shadow. He watched the shadow and tried to copy it’s moves, but it kept on doing something else.
‘Ok, shadow. You’re misbehaving today but I’ll still say hi. Hi Shadow.’ Wait – that wasn’t supposed to happen! His shadow was supposed to copy what he did, and succeed! But now, Roger was trying to copy the shadow, and was failing! He put up with it for a week. Roger put up with this nonsense which opposed physics laws, but one day in school, he could not stand it anymore. Mr. Shadow, as he had called the shadow, was jumping on everyone’s desks and even stole someone’s sandwich! Then, the moment Roger heard the first ‘ding’ of the school bell for the end of school, he raced back home, his crazy shadow following him as usual. When he arrived home, he jumped up the ladder and brought down with him a stack of books. Roger pulled one out which was labeled ‘Crazy Shadows and What To Do With Them’. He opened the book and flipped to page 76, where the explanation for shadows acting weirdly was. ‘Your shadow may be acting weirdly due to lots of reasons. If your shadow steals stuff and dances, such as an occurrence in 1647. This has a high chance of meaning your shadow is trying to send you a message. If it annoys you a lot, on purpose, then it may need you to pay more attention to them.’ As the next chapter started after that, Roger closed the book and put the book and box back. After that, he tried paying more attention to the shadow, and for a while, it was really fun! They played hide-and-seek in the garden, the shadow helped Roger in schoolwork and homework. Roger was starting to befriend the shadow! But sadly, one rainy morning, Roger woke up to find his shadow acting normally again. Except he wouldn’t call it normal – he would call it depressing. Roger had come to like his shadow, and he was sorrowful. ‘I guess that’s the end of my weird shadow.’ Roger gave a sigh. He was so tired he fell asleep.
By the way I posted the same writing in the textbox AND as a screenshot in case something glitched.

Varoon – WEEK 1 (1)
My personal moral of the story – bad things may just be a blessing in disguise.

arynec – WEEK 1

Though I think I saw it giggle as I turned away, and headed home.

jocelin.lu – WEEK 1

Yilin Tao – WEEK 1

The Day a Shadow came to life
By Marina

Qiaoqiao – WEEK 1

Sinduja – WEEK 1

Khushi – WEEK 1
On a perfectly sunny day, I was sitting on the swing that was in my beautiful backyard. The grass was lush and mowed, the trees’ leaves were dancing and twirling in the warm hugging breeze. As I was sliding off the swing, I noticed a figure moving on the grass. I was a bit puzzled but I had to pack my bag for the ‘SpellersSpellingBee®’.

It had done its job.

rainie-jiangoutlook-com – WEEK 1 (1)
