Hoyts and all other movie theatres are now getting overtaken by the comfortable and enjoyable experience at home. Imagine people going to your movie theatre feeling happy and joyful and leaving sad and disappointed. I am writing to you to make snacks free with the tickets that people buy to go watch a movie at your theatres. Many people have been complaining about making snacks free with the tickets that people buy to go watch a movie at Hoyts theatres. Many people have been complaining that the snacks that the Hoyts theatres sell are over priced and not worth the price. Surveys show that people who watch the show after it comes out on free websites are generally more comfortable and happy with the experience they get at home.

Firstly, movie theatres should decrease the price of snacks because they are way too overpriced. Imagine people going up to the counter to buy some snacks for the movie but gasp in horror when they see the terrifying prices on the electronic screen. Statistics show that the price of the snacks in convenience stores are more than an eighth times cheaper than the prices at the theatres. This means you could buy seven packs of snickers at Woolworths and it would cost the same as the price of half a pack of snickers in the theatre store.

The irreplaceable experience of watching a movie at the movie theatre is mostly ruined by the pricey snacks. This means that you can not enjoy the movie you are watching and end up leaving in a fit of disappointment. This reservoir of movies has a good environment but not so much of a good experience. My second point is that these snacks are sometimes the key element for having a good time at the movies and that you must not leave in miserable
conditions. For instance, many people buy popcorn for movies, right? Imagine putting your hand into your popcorn bucket only to find out that it’s not there because you thought it was a waste of money. This will leave you hungry throughout the movie. Missing snacks will kill your focus on the movie and you won’t be able to enjoy the entire movie.

My final point is why should we buy the movie ticket for an overwhelming price when we can stay at home and be comfortable while watching the movie for free. The tactile environment of movie theatres makes us enjoy it while feeling proud that we are one of the only ones watching it. Although the movie environment feels better we don’t have to buy tickets since most movies come out on Netflix a few months after the cinema. This means you can get snacks from home and watch the movie in a comfortable place for significantly less press. The snacks you get at home are not just limited to popcorn, candy and drinks, they can be like your cultural sweets and your favourite foods. Watching from home also means you can pause it for breaks to go to the toilet.

All in all Hoyts is on the cusp of being boycotted and all of the nostalgic memories of Hoyts that you have may be gone due to one thing which is the fact that snacks are too pricey. Do you really want overpriced snacks for a movie to ruin your joyful experience? What you can do to help solve this problem is start watching movies on free websites and get your own snacks to enjoy the movie with. Hopefully Hoyts will understand this problem and fix it.

    Dear Honourable Mayor,
I am writing this piece to express my thoughts of integrating more ‘real’ books into the bookshelves of our school and local library’s. But first of all, what qualifies a book as a ‘real” book. A real book is a book that provokes creativity, entices imagination and spreads the love of reading. It is a book that many people will enjoy and is versatile. Another factor of adding more ‘real’ books is that it can foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity. Don’t you think that this action must be made?

The intended structure of a book is that it has a cover/back, pages made out of paper and a spine. However, e-Books don’t even have a single element of a real book because they are not tactile The experience of reading ‘real’ books is irreplaceable. This is basically manipulating the use of books.

In addition, ‘real’ books provoke creativity, entice imagination and spread the love for reading.
These books are like the igniter for imagination and without ‘real’ books, our creativity would crumble into a million pieces. A report about our towns academic performance shows that grades are slipping in English and Writing by a staggering 47.8% on average – after the introduction of the e-Book system. The requirement for the tactile books are becoming more indispensable than ever if we have to protect the future generations love for reading.

Furthermore, e-Books create a sense of digital divide amongst our society while ‘real’ books connect others together. E-Books create a digital and societal divide as not all of the people in our community can afford purchasing the devices of where e-Books are found. Whilst this shatters benignity and community, introducing more e-Books means that there will be less ‘real’ books comparatively, so the people who can’t afford e-Books don’t have a range of literature to get engrossed in. This results in a lose-lose scenario for the entire local society as a whole.

However, ‘real’ books enforce a sense of community. In the local library, we have gatherings there every month or so, and there we have a chance to express our thoughts on a book. If there are more e-Books, than not everyone can be part of this wonderful opportunity and experience.

In summary, more ‘real’ books must be added to the reservoirs of knowledge for multiple reasons. The resonance of creativity, imagination enforces the love for reading. Whether it is about the crisp sound of turning pages or the interest for being immersed in a wonderful world, more ‘real’ books must be integrated in our local bookshelves.

    Sincerely,
    Khushi Siromani

  3. Dear Respected Premier of NSW, Australia,
I ask you, yes, you, to imagine a world where there are no libraries. Everyone is using digital devices such as kindles, iPads, phones-you name it to me! What if there is no such thing as a library anymore. Okay, there could be a library, but more than certain to have a whole different meaning to right now. To start off with my reasons on keeping libraries, not every family can get digital devices to use to read. Not only that, libraries build strong communities. Furthermore, you don’t need battery nor any wifi to read actual books, which you would need to read digital books. Let me explain why I think we must keep libraries where they are and not close them. EVER.

To initiate, not every family can afford digital devices. For example, do you think poor African countries who don’t use digital devices can afford one? Probably a whole country can’t afford one! Do you think poor families whose most expensive things are their clothes can afford a tiny phone with limited features? No way! Can poor countries and families afford books? Of course! They can go to libraries, which are basically free! This is why I think we must save libraries-NOW.

To add on, libraries build strong communities. Do you think you will meet anyone online? No way! Just AI! Do you meet anyone in libraries? More than certain! You meet friendly librarians, children, and adults! This is why libraries are better than digital devices and must be saved right now as you are reading this. I MEAN IT!

To end off, digital devices, unlike libraries, need battery and wifi. You only need wifi to use laptops and computers at the library, but that is not used all the time when you go to the library. What about electronic devices? Kindles, iPads, phones, you name it. They all need wifi! This is why I think strongly that we need to keep libraries just as they are right now.

To sum up everything I just told you, we most certainly need to keep libraries. Not just because they are beneficial to us, humans, they can help change the wonderful world around you. We must not let AI replace our libraries and we must save them from ever being replaced! I suggest you keep libraries just as they are – right now.

    Yours sincerely, Jeremy.

  4. Dear Esteemed Premier,
Imagine a world where in the digital era, all books lay lifeless on a screen. Is a library filled with no physical books truly what we want to exist? Today, these amazing organisations dance a lively beat in the heart of our community, sparking curiosity, bringing nostalgic memories and linking us together. Libraries foster a connected society, providing a much needed anchor for our own well being, and creating many valued recources that offer a quiet space, focused areas for study and relaxation- things that the internet cannot replace.

Firstly, libraries are crucial as they connect people together. They resonate with a sense of community, discovery and belonging. These sanctuaries serve as relaxed gathering spaces where people from a diverse range of cultures can gather to share ideas and have fun during events that encourage engagement and an atmosphere where not a single thing from the internet can replicate. Beyond just books, it is a quiet and controlled enviroment where one can get lost in and seperate us from a world where the digital world is taking over.

By encouraging the use of physical books and other recources besides the internet, libraries around the world are helping people to combat many health issues that are resulted because of excessive screen time. Some examples of problems because of this are eye strain, head aches and also posture problems. The use of physical libraries uncover the path to and alternative to the constant presence of screens around us today. This also promotes a much healthier relationship as we uncover knowledge and learn.

“Google can bring you back a hundred thousand answers, but a librarians brings you the only one that you really need.”, says Neil Gaiman. The internet- an impressive search device can bring you many responses that can be overwhelming. Merely one quick conversation with a librarian to help you find a book or clarify your understanding can help you much more.

Finally, Libraries are fundamental to the gateway of knowledge, culture, and information, acting as organised systems that make very large amounts of information accessible to the public, without the need to spend any money. By upholding the needs of free access to information and rejecting censorship, libraries allow individuals to explore new ideas, develop deeper thinking, and gain a deeper appreciation for different subjects.

  5. Dear Mayor, I present to you,

The End of Libraries: An Outdated System in a Digital Age

Imagine a world so engulfed by digital technology that books are no longer used or appreciated. That’s why I implore you to reflect on the points I’m about to present—because the use of books is in our lives is crucial now more than ever. I believe that vast, haunting libraries must be transformed, so join me in ushering out the old and welcoming the new!

Foremost, we are living in the digital age—a time when traditional books could become outdated. The fragile pages of physical books can be ruined by water, fire, or time, making libraries unnecessary in a world where everything is accessible online. Why rely on aging, bulky books when you can embrace digital technology and simply purchase an e-book? Instead of spending hours searching for a single title, you can find almost any book online in just minutes. Forget a trip to the library, we are in the Digital Age.

Secondly, towering library buildings could be put to better use in today’s world. Instead of housing shelves of rarely touched books, these large spaces could be transformed into exciting venues like laser tag centres, coworking hubs, or rentable event spaces. Repurposing libraries in this way would better serve modern communities and reflect the shift toward digital information access. So shut the book, grab what libraries don’t offer.

Finally, cost and maintenance. We all need staff in a library to guide and help us do what we are doing. But when hiring employees, you need to pay them. Where’s the money coming from, and they also need to buy need books being made, so more money is needed to fund these. Libraries just drain money while on the other hand online shopping needs no employees which saves and makes money! Plus, you get to keep your e-book!

To sum up, I personally believe libraries are a no. Why? Because technology is invented, the building could be put to good use and there are financial issues caused by libraries. So throw out books, a long trips to the library, let’s start a new era deeper into tech.

    Sincerely, Farzana

  6. Why Digital Libraries are Better than Physical Libraries
    Dear esteemed Prime Minister,
Who wants to get a book that someone has reserved or already borrowed? In fact, with digital libraries you can get any book even if some is already reading it. Communities should definitely have digital libraries because they are environmentally friendly, you can get the books you want without waiting for it and you can get your books faster than lightning. People absolutely need digital libraries in their daily life.
Who wants a world that is environmentally friendly? With digital libraries, we can save trees to build an extraordinary ecosystem. Books are mostly printed with paper. Paper is made out of trees and cutting down trees is not good for the environment. But with digital libraries with can just read it on your device at home. Without that many books in the world, there will not be many environmental problems. Plus, digital libraries only need you to have a device and a knowledge of technology. Without an environmentally friendly world, you the world will be full of greenhouse gases and fossil fuels.
Imagine a world without needing to wait for a really good book. In physical libraries, you always need to wait for a book you are reading if a person has reserved or borrowed it. But with digital libraries, you can just click on the book you want and get a copy of it to read. This is way easier than just wasting time on waiting for a single book. Switching to digital libraries means no more wasting time and thinking about the book for two weeks. Also, waiting for the book could lead to frustration and angriness. This will obviously make you pretty angry for the next few weeks.
Finally it is extremely fast to get a book you want. Sometimes if you live in remote areas you have to drive to your nearest library. It might even take hours! With digital libraries, all you need to do is click on your screen and you have the book you want. This saves way more time than wandering on the countryside looking for the book that you have been waiting for.
To sum up, everyone community should have digital libraries because they are environmentally friendly, you do not need to wait anymore and you can get your book extremely fast. Let’s make a difference in the world by spreading awareness for more digital libraries. I mean, Prime Minister would you want a hundred people knocking on your door to ask for digital libraries. I think it is better that you fix some libraries into digital ones so we can have a better world.
    Yours sincerely,
    Olivia Lin
