10-Day In-Depth Intensive Selective Thinking Skills
Ten days. Ten reasoning strands. One method for unfamiliar questions.
A 10-day Zoom programme designed to strengthen advanced thinking skills for challenging academic assessments. Students learn to identify errors, evaluate evidence, analyse arguments, solve patterns and procedures, interpret complex data, manage logical constraints, follow algorithms, and solve spatial reasoning challenges.

No recordings. This programme is live only. Please check your child can attend all ten sessions before enrolling.

Runs across both weeks, so it fits alongside any 5-day booster.
Add English, Maths, Trial Test or Writing in either week and the 2 or 3 programme discount applies automatically at cart. The 5-day Thinking Skills booster covers the basics this intensive builds on.
See the subject boostersWhy ten days, not one
Each day is a different strand
Ten sessions, ten reasoning strands. Each lesson targets one, and deliberately revisits the ones before it, so nothing is taught once and forgotten.
Built for questions your child has not seen
The point of reasoning questions is that they are unfamiliar. The course teaches a method for approaching them, not a list of answers to memorise.
Strategy, then timed application, then feedback
Every lesson combines clear strategy teaching, worked examples, timed application and teacher feedback. The loop is the same every day, the content moves.
Goes past the Selective Thinking Skills section
Evidence evaluation, algorithms, flowcharts and data interpretation sit above the Year 5 Selective syllabus. Students who finish this are ahead of the section, not level with it.
Who this is for
A good fit
- Already comfortable with the basic Thinking Skills question types and ready for harder material
- Gets deductions right but stalls on evidence, data or procedure questions
- Preparing for the Selective test and wants to be ahead of the section
- Enjoys puzzles and wants a structured, harder version of them
Not the right fit
- A child meeting Thinking Skills for the first time (start with the 5-day Thinking Skills booster)
- A family looking for Maths or English content

Day by day
Each day targets a distinct strand while deliberately revisiting the ones before it.
Day 1
Identifying mistakes
Multi-step errors, contradictions, overlooked conditions. Trace information step by step and find where a piece of reasoning, a calculation or a procedure first goes wrong.
In sessionTimed error-spotting set
Day 2
Evaluating evidence I
Source credibility, relevance, sufficiency. Judge whether evidence is trustworthy, directly relevant and sufficient for a claim.
In sessionTimed evidence set
Day 3
Evaluating reasoning I
Premises, conclusions, assumptions, hidden flaws. Separate claims from supporting reasons and identify unstated assumptions.
In sessionTimed argument set
Day 4
Finding procedures I
Patterns, codes, ciphers, multi-rule sequences. Identify and apply one or more rules in number, letter, symbol and shape procedures.
In sessionTimed procedure set
Day 5
Identifying similarity I
Data comparison, interpretation, charts and tables. Compare values, trends, proportions and categories accurately in unfamiliar data displays.
In sessionTimed data set
Day 6
Logical analysis
Logic grids, ordering, scheduling, constraints. Translate written conditions into a grid, table or diagram and eliminate systematically.
In sessionTimed logic grid set
Day 7
Evaluating evidence II
Conflicting evidence, corroboration, reliability, missing information. Compare competing evidence and identify what further information would resolve uncertainty.
In sessionTimed evidence set
Day 8
Finding procedures II
Algorithms, flowcharts, nested rules, input-output systems. Track multi-step and conditional rules accurately to predict outputs and locate errors.
In sessionTimed algorithm set
Day 9
Evaluating reasoning II
Strengthening and weakening arguments, cause and effect, alternative explanations. Choose information that directly changes how convincing an argument is.
In sessionTimed strengthen and weaken set
Day 10
Spatial reasoning and review
Rotations, reflections, cube nets, spatial transformation. Manipulate shapes systematically and consolidate all ten reasoning strands.
In sessionMixed review set, marked and explained
How each session runs
01Learn it
A clear method for the day's question type, taught live.
02Try it, get feedback
Timed practice, then what to change and why.
03Apply it again
The correction goes straight into the next set.
First 20 minutes
The strategy for the day's reasoning strand, taught live with worked examples of the question type.
Remaining 40 minutes
Timed application on the day's strand, then teacher feedback on every question that cost marks, with a short revisit of earlier strands so nothing is taught once and forgotten.
Cameras on, small group, no recordings. The work happens in the room.
What your child walks away with
- A method for approaching an unfamiliar reasoning question
- Confidence across all ten strands, from error spotting to spatial reasoning
- Faster, more systematic elimination under time
- A clear picture of which strands still need work

Are sessions recorded?+
No. Zoom Holiday programmes are live only and there are no recordings. Please confirm your child can attend every session before enrolling.
How does the multi-programme discount work?+
Add any 2 or any 3 Zoom Holiday programmes to your cart and the discount applies automatically at checkout. No code needed.
What does my child need?+
A device with Zoom and a working camera and microphone, a quiet space, and pen and paper. All materials are provided in class.
Who teaches the class?+
Senior Scholarly tutors who teach the Year 5 Selective programme during term. The same people, the same methods, in a five day block.
Is this the right level for my child?+
These programmes are built for Year 5 students preparing for the 2027 Selective test. If you are unsure, message us on WhatsApp before enrolling and we will advise.
