Physical libraries are a relic of the past, and no one even notices. Digital solutions are everywhere. E-books, online magazines, AI tutors. But that is no excuse to abandon the institutions that made our communities resilient. I believe physical libraries are not just functional. They are essential. They offer connection, equity, and sustainability in ways digital platforms just cannot.
First, libraries are community centers. They’re not just book-lending libraries. They’re halls of belonging. You step inside them and see students working on homework, parents reading to kids, seniors chatting with librarians, and book clubs meeting in quiet corners. That’s not just warm and fuzzy. That’s connection. In a world where most of our interactions take place through emojis and DMs, libraries offer real human connection. They’re safe, welcoming, and open to everyone. You need no subscription, log in, or credit card. You just walk in.
Second, libraries are strongholds of equality. Not everyone has access to high-speed internet or the latest equipment. In remote areas like some Australian deserts, libraries are lifelines. They offer free Wi-Fi, computers, printers, and even technical assistance. That is not just handy. It is essential. Consider not being able to complete homework, apply for a job, or read news online. Libraries make sure no one gets left behind. They bridge the digital divide and offer everyone an equal chance.
Now let us talk about the environment. People believe digital books are more environmentally friendly, but that is not always so. E-waste is a huge problem. The tablets and e-readers end up in landfills, seeping toxic chemicals into the earth. Books, on the other hand, can be recycled, passed on, and donated for years to come. Libraries are also an eco-friendly option as they promote borrowing instead of buying. That means there is a waste of fewer resources and less consumerism. Books also do not need batteries.
Libraries also benefit mental health. They offer silent spaces to think, read, and breathe. In a world that is constantly filled with notifications, libraries are one of the few havens where silence is genuinely respected. That is rare and valuable. When you are stressed, overwhelmed, or just need a break, libraries give you space to restart.
So yes, digital technology is convenient. But libraries are powerful. They bind communities together, save the planet, promote equality, and give us silence in a noisy world. If we let them go, we are not just losing institutions. We are losing connection, equity, and sustainability.

Dear Esteemed Members of the Council,
It has come to my concern that as we stand on the cusp of a fully digital era, are we truly prepared to sacrifice the indispensable magic of our physical libraries? These sanctuaries represent far more than mere buildings, they are vibrant communal hubs connecting generations, preserving knowledge, and fostering creativity.
Within their hallowed walls, libraries provide an egalitarian space where all citizens, regardless of background, can access a reservoir of information. Moreover, they play a crucial role in bridging the digital divide, offering technological resources to those who would otherwise remain disconnected in our increasingly online world. The gentle rustle of turning pages, the comforting scent of well-loved books, and the peaceful atmosphere create an experience that no screen can replicate.
Furthermore, in our quest for progress, we must consider the environmental impact of our choices. While electronic devices become obsolete within years, the longevity of physical books presents a compelling argument for stewardship of our planet’s resources. The benignity of a shared book stands in stark contrast to the mining of rare minerals required for digital readers.
Therefore, I implore you to champion the preservation of our libraries.
irreplaceable institutions that hold not just books, but our shared history and collective future.
Will you join me in ensuring that the tactile and emotional allure of true books remains present for future generations to come?
Exit Ticket:
Physical libraries matter because they are living sanctuaries of knowledge, community, and equal access, where ideas are not just stored but shared, discovered, and made human.

Physical libraries are essential for our communities
Dear reader, do you think that physical libraries are needed? I agree. Libraries are essential for our community. There are three reasons I have, such as they provide a calm, peaceful place to learn, they provide community connection and give us an opportunity to go on a free device. Can a digital screen ever replace the warmth of a librarian’s smile and the rustle of turning pages?
Firstly, we need a calm peaceful place to learn and a perfect place for that is a library. Sometimes at home there are just too many distractions or just too much noise which can make it hard for you to focus. In libraries there are many rules including Maintain silence, respect others, no food, or drinks, use devices responsibly, follow computer usage policies, no disruptive behavior, respect borrowing limits. These are the rules of a library and if you do not follow them, u might get kicked out. Surrounded by books and gentle silence, libraries invite us to explore knowledge without distraction.
Secondly, libraries provide community connection. Libraries are gathering places where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to learn and share. They host events, workshops, and clubs that strengthen bonds within the community. A library is more than a building—it is a hub of connection, conversation, and collaboration. Through shared resources and inclusive spaces, libraries help build a sense of belonging. A library can also provide us with friends and a lot of fun. When you walk into a library it is the same as walking into a portal of knowledge. A portal of knowledge can awaken our deepest potential and guide us toward lifelong learning. It empowers us to think critically, dream boldly, and connect with ideas beyond our own experience.
Thirdly, libraries can give us an opportunity to go on the internet. This is good because some people have no device at home thus, they cannot research or do something else online which is bad. These devices are free to use so you don’t have to pay. Libraries provide free internet access, giving everyone a chance to connect online. With public computers , libraries help bridge the digital divide in our communities. Whether you’re applying for jobs, researching, or staying in touch, libraries offer a reliable way to get online. For those without home internet, libraries serve as a vital gateway to the digital world. By offering internet access, libraries empower people to learn, explore, and stay informed.
To conclude, physical libraries are a must. They help us in various ways such as they provide a calm, peaceful place to learn, they provide community connection and give us an opportunity to go on a free device how much more could we want

Why Physical Libraries Matter
To all citizens of Australia, these days, digital books and reading websites are used globally, leaving physical libraries behind. But when a lifeless, tedious screen is right in your face, the experience is dreadful compared to a library, which is an educational peaceful space full of various physical books. Would you really choose a digital website over an exciting space full of books? Well I definitely wouldn’t! This is why I absolutely think physical libraries matter as it is educational, it’s a quiet community space and it bridges the digital divide.
To start off with, libraries offer a free educational source to everyone who needs it. Several studies have shown that people who go to libraries and read books can significantly improve their literacy thus making them smarter. Take Bob for example. He is the top student in class and aces all of his subjects. He said he always went to the library to read books which was the reason he gained so much intelligence. Studies also found out that students who don’t read tend to have grades and academics below average. This shows how reading books can really impact your education and why lots of people value libraries so much which I definitely believe as education is superior and very significant in our lives.
Additionally, libraries matter and must be saved because it is a very quiet space that is offered to the community. Imagine a tranquil, quiet space where no one can disturb you from diving into your deep imagination. For me, that seems great and relaxing! It also is for the community which is for anyone that wants to read. And don’t worry because they won’t be disturbing you in any way unless the library is closed. Libraries usually have a strict noise rule so everyone can have their own imagination silently. And guess what? This is all free! Some websites make you pay money to access it! Do you now understand why people absolutely love libraries?
Finally, I think libraries are significant and matter in our world because it bridges the digital divide. Some people don’t have devices or the internet which means they can’t read online due to not having it. In July 2025, a study found out that 31.3% of the whole world don’t have access to the digital world. On the other hand, libraries offer computers, devices and the internet for free! Countless people love libraries because of these things which is why we should save them.
In conclusion, libraries matter and must be saved because it is educational, it’s a quiet community space and it bridges the digital divide. Libraries are far more than buildings with books. They give everyone, no matter their difference, a chance to read. Without them everyone would lose access to what I all said. This is why I want to save our libraries, as it is for the better good.

Imagine a world where physical books don’t exist. All you do is stare at a screen. Wouldn’t we need to preserve the physical libraries? Libraries safeguard history and culture they have things way back and would have been gone if libraries didn’t exist. Books are also more reliable than e books as without internet access e books will be useless.
The library may seem less important in today’s digital age, but it actually plays a vital role in safeguarding our history and culture for future generations. Books hold the knowledge, ideas, and stories of the past, and by keeping them in our library, we ensure that this information is not lost or forgotten. Unlike websites that can be deleted or changed, books remain as a permanent record of who we are and what we value. Future generations will be able to open these books and learn about the 21st century, our history, and our culture in a way that is authentic and trustworthy. Without libraries, students in the future could lose access to the rich traditions, lessons, and voices that shaped our world.
E books are also not always reliable due to their lack of compacity and trustworthiness. Unlike physical books e books have a limited compacity which libraries don’t have that sort of limit. E books also have technical difficulties with means they will lag and have all other sorts of problems. E books also create health problems such as eye strain from looking at the screen for to long.
Libraries are essential because they preserve history and culture for future generations in a way that e books cannot. Physical books provide a permanent and reliable record, while e books can be deleted, changed, or made useless without internet access. Unlike e books, libraries are not limited by storage, and they avoid technical problems or health issues like eye strain from screens. Keeping physical libraries ensures that knowledge, stories, and traditions are safely passed on.
