    Date: 29.139.173924- Zoe’s space log

It’s been a while since the adults woke up. I would not say its a good thing, but the comforting gaze of Aunt Evelyn and Mr Humbert help mellow out the pain that stabs at my heart everytime I think about the sleep, about Aiden’s quiet acceptance into the swirling mist of the airlock, and the strange anger that bubbles into my heart as I see the adults pace around in their confined area. I want to cause them pain, to break them, to hurt them, but I also want to see their old shell, without the Project Firewall tearing us apart.

Liam and Mia are adjusting fine, they have resumed to their old selves, quarrelling and arguing over small things. This makes me happy, but it hurts when I’m happy because it reminds me of the loss, and how much Aiden would have liked it- if he were still here. And the nagging voices of the grown ups, pleading to be let out resonates in my head, ringing in my ears and dividing my thoughts in two.

Soon after we put the adults in solitary confinement, I have noticed that their attitudes are changing. Sweet and loving Emily turned into a monster after she went in, howling and cursing the Lumina, screaming how it was all a lie. Outgoing Uncle Albert whimpered and stayed in a corner for most of his time, recoiling at the sound of voices and touch. The Aunts have suffered the worst. Sticking together for most of their childhood, being away from people was a major setback. They murmured at how Project Firewall was not real, how Lumina wasn’t real, how they weren’t real…

Part of me connects with them, wary of the Lumina and ready to do anything to keep the family together. The other part is furious at their betrayal, at how they could so mercilessly let Aiden die. My heart is torn from the cost of losing Aiden, could I lose my family too?

Speaking about Lumina, my mind still tingles at the encounter with the creatures. Back then, I was too shocked to think about it, but now I wonder how and why they want to make contact with us. Was it that we had something they desired? Or maybe a chance to conquer another world? However, I can’t ignore the importance of their offer. The possibilities they offer us are momental to the future of humankind. Yet it may also destroy it. Without knowing their motive of contact, we would not be able to find out whether they were friend or foe.

I press my nose against the window of the titanium enforced capsule, and breath in a gulp of air, my breath fogging the aqua stained glass. Far off in the distance, I think I can make out the airlock, its swirling mist of cobalt blue and sugilite purple. I wonder if i’ve made the right decision, inserting the chip into the projector. While we may have gained new knowledge, the truth breaks me, and I wonder if I can ever trust again.

As the fire moon zooms past us, Liam and Mia join me by the balcony. The stars shine in a merry glow, casting light over the cold mist that has set over our warm fireplace. They comfort me with reassuring words, but I’m not sure that I will ever be the same. The whole trip has strapped me into a rollercoaster of emotions and it has left me traumatised, from the loss of Aiden to the adults’ betrayal. But I must stay strong, not let actions tear me from the pages of the world and remain standing. Looking over to Liam’s goofy smile and Mia’s warm motherly eyes, I realise that I may have found a family in midst of ruin. And I’m sure that this family will stand forever.

    Log: out.

  2. Alrighty kids, it is time to sleep!” Auntie Bella said cheerfully.
We walked all the way to our bedrooms in slow motion chatting around like we did every other day on the luxury space cruiser the ‘stargazer’. But there was something extra, like a sprinkle of awkwardness or fear. No one knew. We all tossed and turned on the bed even with the rosesleepers which made us dream and sleep well. However it just felt wrong. The very next morning, all promises of safety were ripped up like a piece of paper with a cat.

There was no auntie bella to wake us up there was no sound even. Not even the slight snore of a parent. Everyone woke up a few minutes later and we decided to go look.
“Tom, why don’t you go?” asked Lachlan.
“Why don’t you?” Tom snapped back at him.
“Guys quit it, we are a team alright,” I replied before he could start an argument.
We walked slowly towards the door with a palpable sense of trepidation. I opened the door and fought back tears as I saw all the parents in pods like those in movies to make them sleep forever. I ran straight towards them trying to latch open the door, but it was no use. Then I remembered, there was a time limit until they were able to be released. I guess we had to wait for 5 years.

We needed to make sure they didn’t die so we took up driving the cruise. The heart beats were calm at a steady 85 bpm. But I think I heard the lone single off beat. I thought it was my ear, but it came again.
“Errr guys, I think we’re headed for the Alpha nebula,” Seth said.
“WHAT!”the three of us screamed together.
” Lemme see!” I said, “No one comes out of the nebula.”
Just as he was saying, there it was on a large map on the beeping control pad a huge purple bubble, labelled the Alpha nebula. I ran straight to the window and saw the purple thing coming straight to us. Was there an imposter among us? Then I knew instantly.

    Tom.

I went straight to his bed with Lachlan and Seth and saw possibly their biggest fear. An alien.
“So was any of this true?” I asked at him holding my tears up, as anger bubbled up in my body.
    ” Mmm no” Tom said.
And that was it. I told my friends to drive us out of the nebula and as they went, I got the alien gun to shoot Tom, but all the friendship and memories bubbled in me. I hesitated for a second and listened to Tom’s last words which were teasing me and making me shoot him. And I did as he wished.

I looked away not wanting to see as I went back to the control room to tell my friends about the decision I made bracing for a bombardment of billions of comments about my action. But all they said was he deserved it. We stood in the control room looking straight at the tiny planet Earth.

Life on the Stargazer was neatly structured. From meals in the bustling dining hall to lessons in the school rooms, everything was carefully planned. But it was the quiet moments in the observation deck that stole my heart. There, surrounded by the darkness speckled with distant stars, I would lose myself in dreams of the endless possibilities beyond the ship’s metal walls. Liam, Aiden, Zoe and I would run around exploring every nook and cranny. I knew a lot about plants and animals so I would read at the ships library.
I grumbled. That was the past. We didn’t even know what would happen. Something mysterious had threw the Stargazer off course, triggering a strange phenomena that plunged the adults, including my parents, into a deep sleep by a mystery. Suddenly, it was up to me and my friends – a group of teenagers who barely knew how to control a ship to ironically do just that.
The burden was exhilarating. Zoe had announced we had to go through some big intergalactic storms and always seemed to be mischievous. Liam and Zoe were constantly bickering while Aiden and I just tried to figure out some ideas. I was silently annoyed at the two but I knew I would make it worse. As we navigated through space, every decision felt like a step into the unknown. Aiden approached the control panel which was making strange clicking sounds. Zoe pushed him away and started to use the panel. Aiden muttered something and it must have been something about Zoe. I was sick of her too. I felt bad for Liam who tried to stand up to us but got pushed down.
Days turned into weeks as we encountered one challenge after another I monitored our parents and checked they were steady and alive. Each obstacle tested our determination and forced us to rely on our resourcefulness and ingenuity. Through it all, I tried to prove that we were capable of rising to the occasion, even without adult guidance. We stuttered a few times but kept going on. When Zoe’s reply came when talking about the space conundrum and how someone wanted us to go into the intergalactic storms, I thought about the tentacles I saw in the vent but thought was a hologram.
I told them what I saw and their faces darkened. We successfully navigated the Stargazer back onto its intended course, but I feared the worst for the future of humans and aliens. Liam had checked the vents and reported that all signs of the alien were gone. If it returned the future of aliens and humans would get dangerous. I felt a surge of accomplishment, knowing that we had played a crucial role in safeguarding the ship and its inhabitants. But I knew this was only the start of a dangerous journey. As I stood once more on the observation deck, I saw a slither of a tentacle but thought it was just stress. I checked again and it wasn’t there for now. At least the parents were awake .

We were horrified when we found Aunt Linda calmly in a state of unconsciousness, as if she was coma.
Rowan, the astronomist, observed the Megleta magnetic field, shining in the darkness. “It could be the Megleta magnetic field that is affecting the adults.” Said Alice, the computer specialist.
“Nobody asked, smarty-pants.” snapped Robert, the numerical analyst.
“Cut it out, you two!” I said in frustration.
Out of the blue, we heard uncoordinated beeps coming from the control panel, the clock chiming in its rhythm, as if
    to replicate the holographic panel.
Rowan, Alice, Robert and I hurried or floated into the control room, only to find it a complete chaos.
Levers, wires, buttons, telescopes, all the objects we’ve taken from Earth was completely destroyed.
We were devasted. With all the adults asleep and every single memory from Earth destroyed, we all started losing hope rapidly.
Alice was the first one to be affected, for she had locked herself in her room for the past few days.
On Heptaday, when we all slumped into bed, we heard a hair-raising screech that sent us flying out of bed.
Rowan, Alice and Robert and I were all out in the corridors, searching for the source that had executed the horrendous screech.
We all took a flashlight, a two way radio and paired up with another friend and went our separate ways.
I was paired with Robert and I was fairly grateful because he was at least useful in these times, as for a computer specialist or an astronomist wouldn’t help much.
At that moment, I heard Alice’s anxious voice over the radio. “We are being attacked! Quick! We need your help! we’re on the north side of the ship! Come Quickly!” And then the radio turned off.
“Quick Robert! We got to help them!” I said in fear.
“Yes! Yes! I agree! Lets go! He says and starts running over to the north, with me right behind him.

As we reach our destination, we were horrified to see the monster, chasing Rowan and Alice down the deep, dark corridors.
Suddenly I remembered something, something that was said by my Uncle Barry a long, long time ago, when I was about 4 years old. He said that “Strength makes you strong, courage makes you courageous but coolness make you calm and calm makes you all of those things.”
So in response to my thoughts, I began telling the others and myself to calm down.
We all threw the situation out of our minds and began breathing, slower and slower until we open our eyes and have the courage to start the defense system on the monster.

“We will. We will start the defense system and the self destruct one.
We will detach our pod and the adult ones too into a lifeboat. We will implode the other part of the ship even though it risks many of our lives. But that is our plan. No matter what we WILL do it.”
After Alice explained the plan, we all started getting to work.
I was put in charge for moving the pods (they aren’t heavy because there’s no gravity in space).
Rowan was in charge of everyone’s space suit.
Alice in charge of the systems and hibernation pods and Robert, in charge of keeping everyone safe.
After a while(2 mins), we started the systems, the defense and the destruct.
Then we clambered into our hibernation pods(H-B) in a ship of 10 H-B’s.
All we can do is fall asleep and plunge into the darkness, trying to find a habitable planet…

It’s literally only been two days since our spaceship turned upside down. The stargazer has still not fully recovered from the shock of the Lumina; everything has changed out of a sudden.

My pen quivers as I sit here: my sisters are currently fiddling with the control panel. Ever since Aiden, my brother, sacrificed himself to seal the breach, protecting my sisters and I from danger. Aunt Evelyn is still asleep in the statis pod, but it looks like she might be having a bad dream right now. Mia and Zoe have helped me into finding how the adults had fallen into such a mysterious sleep.

This is the first time I have known my siblings for real. Even when I think of Aidan, my throat stings at the memory of his scared but determined face to save the spaceship. I wonder if he ever will come back and say goodbye. Zoe is now considered the most helpful member of the family. We admire her calmness and her resoluteness when something is not going the right way, unlike Mia and I, who are always agitated and concerned.

Uncle Marcus and the other adults are so untrustworthy that we simply cannot even speak to them. They have broken our bottom lines and Mia, Zoe, and I have decided to not consider them as our parents and relatives, but intolerant outsiders. Even the mention of ‘The Firewall” creeps me out.

I want to stand by Mia’s side, to comfort her and Zoe. But I still don’t know how I could make them relax, from all the years of plain isolation of working together as a team. Maybe it is time to have some family time, a time where we can finally be together.

Thank you for your effort. Your essay falls short of the required 500-word count, possibly omitting some key ideas. Please expand it to include all class concepts and resubmit. I believe you can reach this goal!

Universal Galaxy Atomic Time Zone 12.45.5724- Zoe’s Log
It was only a few days, but in those days, I realised that my whole life had been a lie. The lack of Aiden’s presence is a painful sign that can only fill me with grief and sorrow. But I learnt that sacrifice was worth dying for, especially for family.

Before the “family reunion” I would have never imagined getting along with my cousins. Liam was too obsessed with screens with ominous beeps (at least, that was what I thought the beeps sounded like). Mia was disgusting because she handled and studied dead things. Of course Aiden had to babble about his “amazing” calculations all day. We were quite a mixed bunch and were constantly bickering. Now, when I look back to those times, I can’t help but laugh at our silly attitudes towards each other.

But after the meeting of the Luminas and Aiden’s sacrifice, I have learnt to love and support one another. Sometimes I look at that empty seat on the holographic dinner table and start crying. Painful memories start to flood back and I remember Aiden stepping into the airlock, not a single sign of trepidation on his face. Tears start welling up and I wake to see my cousins crowding around me with a sympathetic expression.

I used to feel a bit like the most immature and foolish cousin, because I was the youngest and they often dismissed me. But now I can be part of them, and am finally respected. The past few days have given me self-confidence and courage to stand up. I can sense that they feel that way too, from the look on Aiden’s face when he sacrificed himself, how Mia know shares with confidence about her findings and when Liam confronted Uncle… It’s amazing how much we have changed.

The eerie, cold and vast minds of the Luminas communicating with us still freaks me out. I still hear echos of the Luminas lurking around empty corridors. But I know Aiden’s sacrifice was worth it and now we are truly safe.

My grudge against our parents for lying to us has still not completely evaporated. Tingling sparks of anger can sometimes get ahead of me, but the sight of my cousins help me calm down. Still… being used as test subjects is infuriating. No wonder Mia campaigns for “No Animals For Test Subjects”. Uncle must know as every time I see him he seems to back away a few interstellar pixels. I will tell him when I get over it.

My mind is still really cloudy. But I know what I really need is to spend some time with my cousins, in a real family reunion.

Aboard the Stargazer, where the liveliness of a party blooms, and the excitement of children entering a vast theme park prances around, a family reunion is held. 4 distant cousins – tech genius Liam, biology professional Mia, physics expert Aiden, and prodigious strategist Zoe – discover themselves in the centre of an intergalactic enigma. Suddenly, when the ship changed its trajectory, a dull hush of silence and dread covering the ship as the adults fell into a deep slumber, the cousins must overcome their differences and ways of thinking to save their family and uncover a devious scheme that threatens the galaxy. Each of their skills is a unique piece of the puzzle that they must piece together before it’s too late.

Everybody’s frantically running aboard – Liam is trying to reroute the ship but the course seems to be embedded into the ship hardware, Mia is checking the status chambers where the adult slumber, and Zoe is lost in thought. I’m checking the stasis chambers as well. The adults were oblivious to the events that occurred. As I checked the chronometers. I discovered that, to my horror, time was behaving differently. It was as if a second on our ship was an hour on Earth. Could it be? I thought. I checked our destination – we were heading towards the supermassive black hole Gargantua. Its gravitational pull was so strong that it changed relative time itself – just like Einstein’s theory of relativity stated.

Liam’s eyes widened at the thought of our destination
“That’s impossible! Once past the event horizon, we’ll never make it out!”
“So what now?” Zoe barked at Liam, and a frustrated sneer hung from her face.
“But what have you done?” He remarked.
As they kept on snapping insults at each other, I could see that their hands contorted into fists, and their fists slowly raised. “Stop!” I yelled, but it was already too late. Zoe was sprawled across the floor as Liam flailed his fists, making feeble attempts to attack her. Suddenly, the door to the stasis chambers unlocked, releasing a gust of frigid, sinister air. Smoke seeped from it, covering the base of the ship marble marble-plated floor. Suddenly, the doors to the storage room opened, and the control room, and the resting quarters too. Out of them trudged 4 grotesque aliens, their skins were a shade of green and purple, dotted with thousands of tiny pores and large yellow pimples, spread across their leathery wrinkled skin as their tiny beady eyes pierced through my heart like cold, yet burning icicles.

They muttered something in a jumbled cacophony of noise that could only be described as their language. As they trudged towards us, their webbed feet disgustingly splatting on the ground. Zoe scampered away in fear as Mia and Liam were left dumbfounded. Suddenly, in fluent English, they uttered an offer that could save the galaxy. But at a cost. If we gave them our family’s generations upon generations of passed-down knowledge, they would let go of their grasp on their galaxy and leave us alone. Zoe shook her head, she could never let go of her family pride. But me, Liam and Mia knew that it was our only chance. We reluctantly agreed, as we led the alien towards the safe in which ancient knowledge – hidden in scrolls older than our oldest relatives were kept. We opened the safe, and the aliens eyes grew wider and wider in anticipation. They snatched the knowledge out of our hands, inspecting it prudently, before smiling at us uncannily then suddenly, the world started to spin, and darken until our eyes couldn’t bear any longer. When we woke up, they were gone, the ship was back to normal, but the scrolls were gone. To this day, I wonder if we had made the right decision, if they really would risk their own galaxy, or whether they were bluffing, we all ponder if we had done the right thing.

  8. The Sleeping Ship
The four cousins stared at each other for a minute. ‘The adults are sleeping now!’ remarked Zoe. ‘Whose fault is it now?’ Everybody glanced at Liam. ‘Why are you all looking at me? What have I done? The system was flawless the last time I checked it!’ ‘Yeah, right. If the system was fine, why is the entire ship’s digital components halted to a standstill?’ barked Mia. Liam gave a mixture of a scowl and a smirk, drawing an electromagnetic pistol and jammed it into Mia’s forehead. Mia was silenced immediately. Everyone knew of Liam’s habit of always having a pistol in his belt, and although the others knew he would rarely use it, it was still his effective way of silencing others.
Soon enough, Mia teamed up with Zoe and they had a furious shouting match against Liam, which soon escalated into a fistfight. Liam soon had enough of the squabble and let fire to his pistol directed randomly between the two, which happened to be Mia, paralyzing her for a minute. Aiden tried to calm Zoe down by pointing the chronometer that happened to stop ticking. Liam, however, was still furious at Mia and smirked ‘You’re lucky that I set the pistol onto paralyzer mode. Any more arguing and I really will kill you.’ Soon enough Mia’s minute was up, and she struggled to keep her lips shut, certainly shaken by the threat. However, everybody forgot the topic of debating as Zoe took note of the stilled clock.
Liam took the lead in investigating the cause of the halt of all digital devices on board the galactic cruise ship. The trouble seemed to infiltrate the telecommunication plug-in board. Liam had little idea what the infiltrated sound was, though he was intrigued. He carefully pushed the little red button and plugged in some wires on the circuitboard and jammed the butt of his pistol into the ‘play’ button. There was nothing to be heard but quantum disturbances in the space-time warp field. However, trouble soon arose. The beeping of the buttons started to grow tense and louder until the buttons were practically screaming in their ears about every half a second. This was out of the boundary for Liam. He rummaged in his knapsack filled to the brim with an assortment of weapons and produced an electrified dagger.
‘Ow! Watch what you are doing with the dagger!’ yelped Zoe, as Liam was dancing around the control room berserk and stabbing all the Klaxons within reach to try and tune down the insane beeping, without realizing that he had accidentally stabbed Zoe in the arm. He did not realize this until the dagger slipped out of his hand. Liam looked around for the weapon only to find it embedded in Zoe’s arm, but by the time all the klaxons had been completely obliterated. Aiden quickly settled everything down and immediately rolled out the longest roll of medical tape possible and wrapped it around Zoe’s arm. Matters were settled, but the cause of the beeping was found-an enormous magnetic pulse warping space-time, infiltrating every single device on board.
The cousins had to work together to navigate out of the disturbance, as they would need all their skills combined-no person could do it alone. Zoe, though, had difficulty using her arm, so she manned the pulse neutralizers to neutralize the time-slowing effects. Liam took the wheel and swerved in just about every direction possible, keeping one eye on the map as the others scouted off into the midst of the ship for maintenance control. Soon enough, the ship was navigated successfully, and the chronometer ticked back at the normal pace. Oddly enough, the adults were still dozing away in their peaceful sleep.

    The Sleeping Ship

  9. The Stargazer

The peaceful snores drifted through the solid metal door behind Liam. I gave a long look at each of my cousins, they all seemed as panicked as me. What were we to do now that the parents were all asleep in their mysterious coma? “Well, what do we think, what made our parents fall asleep?”Zoe started carefully,”anybody have a single clue as to what may have occurred?”Neither Zoe, Liam, Mia or I really wanted to share our ideas with each other, but for the sake of our parents we tried to have a discussion.

So I reluctantly shared my idea that a deadly wave of vibrations had occurred and knocked our parents out, but unfortunately and annoyingly they did not think that was very likely. So of course they all put in their ridiculous theories that did not make sense at all. At that moment the emergency siren started to go off, all of us ran to the control room. Liam instantly sat down on the portable customised black chair, there was a message on the screen saying ‘system breached’! Liam pressed a lot of different sized buttons and pulled a few levers. In frustration he slammed down another lever and twisted his chair around to face us. “Why didn’t we think of this before? Of course the enemy would try to get into our technology!”Liam shouted, releasing all his anger on us. I knew he wouldn’t get this angry if the problem wasn’t extremely serious, what were we to do?

Liam kept yelling at us for quite a while, after that we decided that we would have to try and land as soon as we saw a piece of land. The technology being hacked into wasn’t the only problem, we were also running low on our powerful energised expensive fuel. While Zoe kept watch outside, we ate our delicious nutritious hot pasta filled with artificial cheese flavouring. As we finished our lunch Zoe called, “quick, steer the ship to the left, I can see some land!”In a flash Liam disappeared into the control room, steered the wheel to the left and pulled a lever. The ship started to turn and sped up in the direction of the land. As I kept check of how much fuel we had left, I saw it rapidly decrease. Would we make it?

Suddenly, just as we were about to land on the shore, the door leading from the telescope tower opened. Behind it stood a looming cruel looking man. “I am the one who has hacked into your technology, hand over the harmony pearl immediately”he said softly. So that was what this was all about, I remembered Mia boasting about how her parents had created a special orb made from the juices of over a hundred different species of plants. She said that they had been working towards making it for over a decade. The reason why it was so special was because you could put the orb into the ground anywhere in the world and it would grow into whatever plant that would thrive in the conditions the most. In response to the man Mia yelled,”never!” “Well then, your parents will never wake up from their coma and I will have to take it by force!”

The man certainly looked like he would knock all of us out and steal the orb. I tried to punch him but he dodged and threw me into the wall. I felt dizzy and all I could do was watch while he locked all of the others except Mia in the cupboard. The man asked where the harmony pearl was and she said something that I couldn’t hear. Then he asked into the room where the parents were sleeping in their pods and a few seconds later he emerged into the room again. In his hand was an aqua orb the size of a marble, to my surprise Mia made no attempt to take it from him. Then the man said,”because of your cooperation, I have released your parents from their coma, they should wake up very soon”. With that the man chuckled to himself and walked out the door. Just then I heard some movements as the parents started to wake up. Before I went to find them I asked,”Mia why didn’t you try to take the orb back from him?” In response she laughed and said”because it was fake, there was no way my parents would take something that precious and valuable on a trip. It’s actually still in my house!”

  10. Sry if it was a bit too long

“Um, Ava?” I asked “Do you by any chance know what happened to the computer?” It was 3:56am, Thursday, and my parents had been asleep ever since Tuesday, when a strange object collided with our space hotel. I was not very familiar with the eerie silence as the adult passengers had fallen into a mysterious slumber. Ever since the collision, there was always a strange smell lingering around the room. All the passengers on board have reported that all adults in their room have been asleep for an unusual period of time.

“Ava?” I asked, “Where are you Ava?!”
“UH! What do you want? I’ve been trying to figure out how to repair our front panel. After the collision, everything has been wobbly and nothing is going straight!” She said in frustration.
“As if you made any progress,” Jack sniggered.

As our hotel was gliding through the emptiness, a gigantic asteroid was in sight, heading straight for our hotel! I had to warn everyone in the hotel!
“Olivia! (who was steering the ship) We need to warn everyone! There is a large unidentified object heading straight towards us!”
“There’s nothing silly! Stop scaring me and let me concentrate on steeri-” She was cut off by the loud sirens anchored to the side of the hotel. The sound travelled around the whole hotel warning an object was coming near us. Suddenly, a big object appeared on the panel Olivia was controlling. The whole airship turned into a frenzy with everyone running around frantically.

“EVERYONE! WE ALL NEED TO CALM DOWN!”
Olivia’s voice rang through the building.
    “We will find a-
And she was cut off by the huge erupting sound as the large asteroid crashed into our hotel with no way to avoid it.

“Ugh,” Jack groaned as he plucked himself up from the ground. “Is everyone OK?” He asked.
I jumped out from behind and cried,
“OUR- OUR HOTEL! IT’S GOING WAY OFF COURSE! IT’S-IT’S HEADING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF HOME!” I yelled with all my might. But, this wasn’t even the least of my worries, our parents were still nice and snug tucked up inside our sleeping pods as if nothing had ever happened. As I took Jack with me upon closer inspection, there was nothing wrong with them. But there was one thing, the hotel was deadly silent, the only sound we could hear was our own breathing.
“Where did everyone else go?” I whispered to Jack. No answer.
“Jack?” I asked. I felt a bit more panicked.
“Jack? Where did you go?!” I whipped my head around and could feel the cold beads of sweat trickling down my forehead and neck. The hotel was empty. There was no one else to accompany me. It was just my own breathing. When I looked down upon my Auntie, that’s when I spotted it. The little culprit. The little wave of light dancing around her eyes, flickering like fire. Her eyelids kept moving around as if she wanted to open her eyes but something was preventing it. I didn’t want to open the lid of the sleeping pod in case I would fall into the deep sleep. But, I summoned all my courage and was about to open the lid when I heard an ear piercing scream. I jumped up in surprise.

“JACK, WAS THAT YOU?” I yelled with ALL my might.
“Please! Come here, I beg you! It’s your cousin Olivia (Liv) ! She’s- She’s” Then it all went quiet.
“Just please come here! Please help me! I’m in room number 43!” Room 43?! Our room number was 3, how did Liv manage to get all the way up there while she was steering the ship?! Unless…
Anyway, with no time for thoughts, I rushed up to room 43 and indeed, it was the worst sight I have ever seen. Before I knew it, I was next to Jack, kneeling down with eyes the size of tennis balls and my mouth gaping all the way to the floor.
“L-Liv.” Was all I could muster. Green foliage surrounded the whole room with Liv lying amongst them, eyes shut, and tiny a mysterious light flickering and dancing above her eyes.
Tiny a mysterious light , tiny a mysterious light , tiny a mysterious light. The thoughts echoed through my mind. THAT WAS IT. That HAD to be it. The strange looking plants that covered our hotel when the first collision happened. After the first collision happened, the adults fell into an odd slumber. After they fell into a deep slumber, I saw the same weird light in their eyes-”

I suddenly blinked out of my day dreaming.
“Um, hello? Are you OK?” Jack asked. “I’ve been trying to get your attention for the past few minutes! Please do something about Liv! I can’t bear to see her like this!” But, I wasn’t listening,
“Jack, I’ve got it! I told him. “I need you to trust me, I’ve got a plan, just stay right here and I’ll be back in a flash.” But the truth was, I didn’t have a plan at all. I wasn’t even sure that the sleep was caused by the plants, and I wasn’t even sure how to steer the ship back to safety! So I focused on just saving Liv’s life right now. I knew her life was in critical danger the moment I saw her. I grabbed my medical kit and ran back upstairs. There I saw Jack with a very anxious face.
“Please help her quickly, her breathing has slowed.” He whispered weakly. I opened my kit and rummaged around and started helping my cousin. After 20, long and the most stressful minutes of my life, Liv’s condition worsened. But, I wasn’t ready to give up yet. Not quite yet. But that was when I realised,
“Jack, have you seen Ava anywhere?” I suddenly looked up at him.
“Well, uh, it’s a long story.” He stuttered. After hearing the tragedy, I was even more determined to save Liv. I had lost a cousin already and I couldn’t lose another. After about another 10 minutes, Liv’s eyes slowly fluttered open.
“LIV!” Jack and I both yelled in sync.
“Where am I?” Liv asked with no power. She was still weak and couldn’t really see properly.
“You’re in our hotel, and (Jack pointed to me) your cousin had just saved your life.”
I was beaming with pride. Medical school had, after all, paid off as I had just saved a life in space. But, all turned downhill when Liv said
“I don’t have a brother, and no cousin either, leave me alone and let me go back.” And with that, her eyes fluttered shut again. Go back where??? Jack and I thought. Maybe saving our parents was harder than I thought. But that was when all the foliage started a soft hissing noise and moving. It started creeping towards Jack and I.
    “JACK! WATCH OUT! THAT ONES-
And I was cut off obviously. My last sight was of Jack and our space hotel, and I entered a different world. Perhaps this was the world Liv was talking about.

Maybe.. Just maybe, we had run out of time.

  11. On the Stargazer
The uncanny silence of the ship as the adult passengers were in their own deep slumber in inverted sleeping pods added to the mysterious, eerie atmosphere hanging in the air of the Stargazer. The cruise ship was intricately built with the incredible shockwave gym and antigravity hoverboard scattered within the rooms. Zero gravity pools and holographic entertainment decks were a pleasurable way for passengers to spend their free time, never monotonous no matter how many times you had been there. Meticulously hidden in the ship was also secret medicinal properties that had the ability to cure even the most serious of diseases.

Aunt Evelyn was continuing to sleep with the same sheet of tranquillity as almost two months ago, although Aiden had said that Aunt Evelyn wasn’t just experiencing sleep. The chronometers had been flickering urgently, meaning that time was behaving strangely. It was as if she was covered by a coma-like trance. A few days into Aunt Evelyn’s slumber, I had spotted a sinister, one cold bead of sweat. I thought that she was faking as a fun prank to lighten our stress, but pondering about it more, I wondered if it was an inauspicious omen. Mia had stated that her crucial signs were stable, but to me every time the machine attached to her limbs beeped, showing her heartbeat’s rhythm, it was irregular and quite offhand. Perhaps whatever occurred in the Stargazer was controlled by someone, and that person strongly had faith in the independence of children and our problem solving. I hadn’t voiced out my opinions yet, however, as Liam would ask for evidence and I had none.

Liam, obviously, had been the first to attempt to prove me wrong. ‘Aunt Evelyn wouldn’t sweat in her sleep! What are you THINKING, Zoe? Plus, her heartbeat is just fine. Stop lying to gain attention from us because you are always ignored because of your age!’ he had snarled, rolling his eyes. I had rolled mine back. Agitation bubbled in my chest, a big wide feeling that threatened to explode on Liam. He was exceedingly irritating and all I wanted to do is to hiss all my insults waiting in the tip of my throat to burst out. However, we had different approaches to talk to each other now. We hadn’t realised that to save our families and to solve the strenuous mystery we had encountered, we had no other choice but to cope with each other and accept different opinions and views. Liam and I especially had to push through our conflicts and let each other express our ideas. It was still very challenging to stop the explosion of frustration to come out as a kind smile, but now Liam was nicer and wouldn’t hiss at me. Since no one was always eyeing my actions for a time to go against me and embarrass me for my ideas, my rage pot simmered down and shrunk.

Frequently Aiden had assigned us jobs to do so we were all busy and bustling around the cruise ship. However, the short periods of time when we just sat down with a blank schedule, the same unsettling thought floated into my mind. No adults. The ship had veered off course, and we had no alternative other than to save our families and if we made a wrong move, it could potentially destroy our galaxy. Not even mentioning we had a limited amount of time. Trembling profusely, the air surrounding me was moist with pellucid tension. I widened my eyes, not allowing the tears of fear to drip down my cheeks. I was strong. I would endure whatever was coming for us. I had Liam, Mia and Aiden right by my side.

  12. The Sleeping Ship

“Oh disasters of disasters! What happened here?” Shouted Liam with surprise,

There were 4 children on a spaceship called the ‘Stargazer’, and when their parents went into their sleeping pods, they fell into deep sleep. Zoe flew into the room Liam was shouting in with her anti-gravitational hoverboard to see the parents snuggled up and eyes closely shut inside the sleeping pods. Liam rushed to control centre to wonder if Aidan would have any idea what happened with the parents. As they reached the control panel, Liam heard the panels flashing and the sirens buzzing. Endless buttons were changing different colours as the wires in the room started fizzing until the Stargazer became pitch black.

“What! Who did that?” Screamed Mia sprinting into the room bumping into the walls as she ran,

“We don’t know?” Zoe replied with worry,

“Let’s just figure out how our parents are going to wake up first, so then they can help us fix the electricity.” Replied Aidan bouncing around,

Liam started to pace around the room. He mumbled some words that Zoe heard and she started to laugh. She eventually got everyone’s attention.

“Why are you laughing when there is a serious situation going on!?” Yelled Aidan from the other side of the room,

“You really think that you can solve this problem easily?.” snickered Zoe with sarcasm,

“You’re not a tech whiz at all! All you do is mutter random words and do nothing!” Shouted Zoe with anger rising through her eyes,

Aidan narrowed his eyes towards Zoe. He knew something was wrong about Zoe. Aidan scratched his chin as he started to think. Would Zoe be the imposter? Would Zoe crash the Stargazer eventually, and make us all suffer? The next thing he knew, was to tell Mia, and Liam about this.

As the four of them fluttered onto their sleeping pods, Aidan waited for everyone to leave so that he could talk to Liam.

“Liam. Do you know how Zoe was laughing, the thing is that Zoe is acting very suspicious. I have a feeling that she is doing all of these problems.” Aidan whispered,

“Yeah, I’ve also noticed.” Replied Liam,

“I have a plan, and we are going to put it to action today.” Aidan said with a hurry,

Aidan ran off, into the room spying on Zoe. Then, Zoe started to creep out of her pod and out into the cabins.

The next morning, Aidan and Liam, knew they had to get rid of Zoe. They agreed on launching Zoe out of the Stargazer. Liam ran towards Mia, and he pulled her toward him.

“We are getting rid of Zoe. She is a traitor!” Shouted Liam with frustration in his body,

Mia nodded slowly, and she agreed. As Zoe was taking a nap. Liam, Mia, and Aidan all pushed the chair towards the back of the Stargazer. They soon kicked her out. They suddenly felt the lights flickering. After that, the lights went on, they heard the sleeping pods slowly open. One by one, the adults began to open their eyes. Their parents have woken! Everything was now back to normal. The parents took control of the Stargazer and now were heading back to Earth.

  13. liuyin_ozhotmail-com

It felt like hours after all the adults fell asleep and were carried to their hibernation pods by the upgraded AI technology installed, NEST (New Exploration Ship Technology). While the other 3 cousins were arguing what to do and where to go no one paid attention to where the ship was heading so Stargazer steered off course and got lodged in the middle of an asteroid field. Just as we were squabbling about rations and how to make our own food…Ka Boom! Engine 1 has burst due to debris and overheating of the fuel tank! In a state of panic, Zoe stood up and told us we needed to somehow close the engine one compartment on the lower level to stop the fire from spreading. Most of us didn’t know how to do that or what to press then… BONK! While the voice of NEST saying “Engine 1 has successfully been ejected. Please close compartment door or else dangers like explosive depressurization may occur. “ Now what?”asked Mia who was on the brink of sobbing. All of a sudden Aiden stood up after accidentally hitting his head on a bit blue button, suggesting him and Liam work on steering the ship somewhere safe while Zoe and Mia working on gardening and on the way to the gardens remember to close the floor 2 doors. While the two girls are gardening, Aiden spotted two unidentified flying objects then a straight message from the flying ship spaces reciting”You have entered Plant Clog’s air and space field please exit immediately or else you will be intercepted”. Aiden replied immediately sending out a destress signal then… BOOSH! Engine 3 was blown off by engine two a huge fire was ignited and is now slowly creeping towards the remaining forty thousand liters of rocket fuel. With that much the space ship would be blown apart! Exclaimed Aiden after doing some calculations. Immediately I knew what to do and has to be done so I shoved Aiden to the ground and set full speed towards the planet with landing gear out. Suddenly all electricity was cut so steering can only be done manually now. As he asked opened the steering wheel compartment I started putting all his concentration and determination onto steering the ship. After a few moments the sounds of cheering and applause filled the air and also the sound of sirens.

  14. Stargazer

As we drove our car onto the Stargazer, an intergalactic spacecraft, the first one ever.
“Yay!” I shouted in excitement as we entered the spacecraft. As I looked around the spacecraft filled with many, many rich and famous people, some that I could recognise easily.
“So many cool people, I love it here!” screamed Zoe and Mia, his cousins,in unison.
“This place is cool,” marveled Liam, his other cousin.
As they entered muttering amongst themselves they saw fountains, multiple toilets, computers and all sorts of amazing things. We charged ahead so fast that our parents had to rein in and stop us.

After a while of marveling at all the fancy things we entered our room. It was decked out with king size beds and things that were so new they didn’t even know what they did. The whole place was like a convivial festival. After a while when everyone was ready to sleep the parents entered a hypersleep. When we woke up we found that we couldn’t open the doors of our sleeping pods, we panicked. As I tried over and over again to try and smash the glass a malodorous odour filled the pod. After a while using his tech brain Liam managed to get out and freed us after. We wandered around trying to release the adults but we couldn’t because they were still asleep. We soon came to the realisation that there was a traitor amongst us, everyone was on the edge. A look of suspicion manifested on Zoey’s face. No one suspected me as I had gained their trust.

I was going to stay with Zoey as she was good at strategy and that was my weak point, physics was my strong suit. The fact that there was a traitor seemed to mire Zoey.
“We should find a base,” I said, “follow me.” I ran off in a direction where I knew there would be a good hiding spot and was large enough to be a classroom for thirty kids. The area near it was a quagmire since it was a field that had its sprinklers on for the past few days. The spot, the commentators box. When Zoey was in their hideout she was ruminating and trying to figure out who did it.
“I will kill whoever did this!” she said angrily.
After mulling over the evidence she concluded that it was probably Liam.
    “Why?” I asked.
“Because he managed to free himself first from the pod, wasn’t excited when we got on and he also looks like he is the culprit.

Looking for evidence we found Mia lying unconscious in a sleeping pod that we couldn’t open no matter what. We walked around shaken from the experience knowing it was Liam. We went back to our hideout but Zoey stayed behind to mourn for Mia. She never came back.

In reality it was me who had sabotaged the sleeping pod. I had staged Liam as the sabotager by leaving his one unlocked on purpose.

  15. As I look around the spaceship, I can see all of the adults in a coma. I can’t really be sure about
that but it looks like it. To my left are my siblings bickering and starting to get physical. As I am
writing this, I wonder if my parents are ever going to wake up again. My sister Zoe is trying to
teach the others why there is no gravity in space because she thinks she knows everything. I
walk over to my parents and wonder what they are thinking right now. Maybe their minds have
been teleported to another world, possibly even better than ours right now. If they enjoy that
world so much, they may never come back to us.

I explain my ideas to my siblings and obviously they all deny it. I hear them say to each other
that it is the most illogical thing that they have ever heard in their life. They think that it is to do
with some advanced scientific technologies that are able to take over peoples minds.

I think about what life was like back at home, where we went to school every day and had no
difficult dilemmas. That is where I want to be, in a normal life, doing schoolwork and playing with
friends. I am here because my parents wanted to go on a space expedition to explore the
universe. We had no choice but to come and get involved with it.

    1hr later…

”Get up, some has broken into our ship.” As I open my can see all the countless buttons,
smashed. I knew someone had definitely broken in and had wanted to take something. I think I
can see the adults are still in their coma, and my siblings are searching the area. As I turn to my
left, I see something that I would have never imagined. With its demonic face, it looked at me
    like an enemy.

    It was my Dad.

  16. Zoe stared resentfully at the dust on the floor in aggravation, biting away at her nails while pondering deeply. Why did this have to happen all of a sudden? Parents put under a magical enchantment, a powerful trance, cousins all acting a bit weird, playing up as if something was wrong. Was that what every normal ten year old experiences in their life. Was this ordinary? A million thoughts raced like molecules building up theories inside Zoe’s mind and even for the smart strategist, it was too much to hold all in. What was happening? She screamed in frustration in her mind, almost letting a word slip out. Her usual calmness and resolving attitude turned into a hot-headed temper and a thirst to discover what was causing these peculiar problems. She stormed off into the distance of the luxury space cruise ship, the “Stargazer.”

Zoe examined the crew carefully, who could be behind this horrid doing. After Aunt Ruth was out they all started behaving strangely and weird. Liam, that tech-wiz is way too tied to his computer screen anyways. What about Mia? That idea left her brain in almost half a millisecond, that softie would not hurt a fly let alone wipe out the whole generation of adults. So that left Aiden the klutz but the oldest boy out of the cousins. The pieces all started fitting together to Zoe. Why was he always quiet, hardly ever talking in their meetings just sitting in the corner absorbing like a shadow. Was he trying to get back at us for the trick we played at him at his thirteenth birthday because we didn’t actually mean it, we were just having fun, was all she could think. Her mind was devoted and hardwired that Aiden was behind this mystery.

Zoe stood up and cleared her throat indicating that she was about to speak. “So, what have you all been up to?” she quired mainly throwing the question at Aiden while glaring intensely at him. Aiden stared back innocently at Zoe, his chocolate- brown eyes gleaming in the sunshine. “I’ve just been trying to update our…” Liam went off but Zoe hushed him off with the waving of her fingers. “Aiden, what about you?” she asked, staring at him sweetly with a smug grin on her face. “I’ve been thinking a lot…, and I have decided to tell you this,” stammered Aiden. Zoe’s heart blew into a million pieces of satisfaction as she was assured that she was right all along about Aiden.

“Follow me,” he whispered as they half heartedly tip- toed across the corridor. The monotonous hum of Aunt Ruth’s machine was not to be heard and for a second Zoe panicked, what had Aiden done? Suddenly the familiar hum was back and she let out a big sigh and also let out a million thoughts/theories which were winding up in her head. They stopped just in front of Aunt Ruth’s melancholy room. “After countless days of thinking, I have come to the conclusion that Aunt Ruth is an alien and she is trying to possess all the adults under her wrath,” Aiden said. Zoe’s face turned tomato red and she seethed with anger glaring at Aiden with a look that could cause plants to wither and die. As Zoe began to yell at Aiden, the adults started to wake up with a different look in their eyes. The look of aliens. Slimy serpent-like scales popped out on their bodies as they all made way for what seemed like the leader. Zoe couldn’t believe her own eyes. This leader was the person that gave her most comfort, stuck with her and loved her more than her own parents did. The leader was Aunt Ruth.

Hi I just wanted to resubmit my homework:

    Stargazer’s Secret

The Stargazer flew through space and time as the passengers on board settled into a comfy and luxurious holiday. Holographic servants wafted through the midnight sky, politely offering cool Jupiter Crush Pro drinks. A built in masseuse chair whirred to life, gentle sensors feeling for the mood of today’s massage. The adults were enjoying a quiet life. Well, not really. Four bickering cousins sat on a titanium deck, arguing roughly amongst each other. Liam, in his nerdy 12 years of life, had devoted most of it to fighting with Adam, physics prodigy who completely disagreed with Liam’s tech-whiz strategies. Zoe and Mia had long since been rivals, fighting for the rich territory of popularity and fame. Not meeting each other face-to-face since the Martians’ unsuccessful invasion, they had lots to fight about.

After a cool relaxing day for the adults and a rough day of this-and-that for the cousins, the big family all tucked into their stasis pods to drift off into solar sleep, some hooked up to whirring machines that played soft music while others had ones to keep good dreams. Adam and Mia both stayed up, reading books on biology and physics. Being a combo of brother-sister, they had a weird sort of peace between them. The soft glow of the stars in the galaxy illuminated the creepily silent halls, bathing them in a silvery-red shimmer. Zoe stayed awake, admiring the stars in absolute wonder. “It’s a whole new world,” she whispered, and settled into a dreamless sleep.
The next morning, the cousins woke to an artificial blue sky with clouds drifting sleepily up ahead. Liam yawned and blushed. Looking down upon his Superman pjs, he glanced around at the bewildered stares. Embarrassment tickled his cheeks, turning them neon red.

The cousins sauntered down to the outdoor breakfast parlour. Breakfast was whatever you wanted – be it a simple Weetbix combo or fluffy hot pancakes with almonds, walnuts, maple syrup, raspberry coulis, and chantilly cream. Liam’s fingers twitched – habit when staying still, as his brain was hardwired to coding. Zoe glanced uneasily at the halls leading to the stasis pods, and pushed away her food. She couldn’t eat with the big knot of nausea in her stomach. “Uh… is it weird to you that the parents aren’t… awake yet? Mum’s usually up with the sun, and I know Aunt Caroline is an early riser. What’s going on?” Adam’s lip twitched nervously, and he too pushed his steaming plate away. “Something’s wrong,” whispered Mia, the grin melting from her face and replaced with a worried frown. Liam already strode away to check on them. “Liam!” Adam hissed. “Wait! Where are you going?” Liam turned around and beckoned them to follow and the three cousins, stunned, jogged to his spot. Liam never left a remark hanging in the air without a comeback!

Zoe’s breath fogged the glass of her mother’s stasis pod, and she pressed her hand against it. “Their vitals are stable… what’s happening?” She stopped her knees from trembling, not showing any sign of weakness as she turned back to her rivals. “I would assume they’re in a coma-like trance, as their vitals seem to be okay and they can’t wake up.” Mia whispered. An eerie silence settled over the room as a chill went down everyone’s backs. Mia’s chin quivered. “ I hope they’re okay. Is there any way to… get them out?” Liam’s eyes suddenly brightened. He glanced at his fingers, wiggling them. “I can hack their stasis pods! I can try to release them!”

Liam’s eyes glazed over as he glanced at the controls. Thousands upon thousands of buttons were placed on the control panel, in all different coloured hues with faded, outdated runes marking the keys. A single bead of sweat made its way down Liam’s spine. His heart sped up, pounding against his ribs like a caged bird as he clacked at the keys. The air was tense as the cousins glanced apprehensively at him. Liam slumped against the wall, panting. “It-It’s no use,” he gasped, rubbing his eyes. “I can’t get in.” Beeping filled the room; the keys were flashing and glowing, the alarms wailing and crying. “Well, genius?” Zoe snapped at Liam over the roar. “What’s your next faulty plan?” Adam glanced at the stasis pods and the monitors. His father’s pod showed an irregular pulse. His own heart nearly stopped and his face twisted in despair. He was sure he didn’t imagine it. How were they going to save their parents? And worse – themselves?

  18. Survival in space- Team Cousins
The cousins changed uneasy glances. The air was suddenly moist, teetering on the precipice of anarchic trepidation. Everything had changed. “W-well, we need to figure out how to avoid the cosmic storm”, interrupted Zoe, breaking the silence. She gulped slowly… Liam stared at Zoe, then at Mia, and back at the ship’s control panel, his fingers once again flying across it. Yet, the adult’s faces were still, no signs what so ever. “Aunt Evelyn is asleep, time is behaving weirdly, we are about enter the deadliest cosmic storm, now we know one of us are-a”, screamed Mia, breathing out a long sigh after. Aiden awkwardly continued to float, while Liam changed his focus from the control panel to the clear statis pod, trying to avoid the situation. Zoe continued to stare at her feet, swaying nervously. The atmosphere was now more acute than ever. Mia buried her face in her sweaty hands, stress taking over her. “Okay so we are 15 kilometers away from the storm” reported Zoe, examining the Holo map. “But our ship is very fast.” Aiden looked out the window, half in the air. Suddenly, his eyes shifted to the beeping coming from the corner of the ship. It was the danger sensor. It happened as soon as you are 12km away from danger. “No one has ever survived the storm, and now we know that someone is making us go there”, muttered Liam under his heavy breaths. Mia tapped her feet anxiously on the numbing white floor of the ship. The ship was in severe peril. The sweet relationship between the cousins was turning more and more bitter by the second. It was final. Who was the imposter? Zoe, Mia, Liam, Aiden? Years and years of mistrust and competition was bubbling under their feet. “What are we doing? We are a team!”, said Aiden, but then a feeling of betrayal silencing him…. Mia looked at the parents. “We really need them! We need to figure out how to get them back.”, Mia said, concerned. “I don’t think we really have anything that is going to help us”, said Liam, trying to focus. “We need to get out of this mess, fast”, Zoe said, the awkwardness shifting to the jeopardy of their lives. “I need to somehow find a way to hack into the system and get the ship under our control”, said Liam, still staring at panel. “ I just need to find a way how…”, he said….
    TO BE CONTINUED….

    Day 231 aboard the stargazer.
We all sat there in silence, just waiting for one miniature movement. Ever since we steered into the void nothing has been the same. As I pace around the room, I can’t stop thinking about what Uncle Sam said to us, “Find key that has an alien inscribed on it, then I need you to,” That was all he said to us before it happened. “Guys, we can’t keep waiting around for something to happen,” I said, “We have to find that envelope, if we do, we might be able to wake them up,” Everyone stared at me until finally Liam said something, “Mia’s right, we have to do something,”
“I agree to, but how do we know that Marcus hasn’t already found it,” Zoe mentioned.
“True, but we should still try, otherwise we may never wake them up,” I motioned, “Let’s split up, me and Zoe will take the upper level, and Liam, Aiden, you guys take the bottom level,”
The floorboards creaked as I slowly crept up the stairs to the upper level, I haven’t been up here since that ear piercing noise, which was when Marcus betrayed us. Zoe turned left into the ballroom, and I was stuck alone in the dark and creepy hallway. I kept walking when I heard this humming sound. I turned around the corner to see the hallway full of fog. That’s when I heard the noise again. Then the fog started to drift away in a serpentine like pattern, I followed it. That’s when it stopped and lead me to a door which illuminated with colour. As I was about to open the door a loud noise began to shriek throughout the stargazer. A klaxon blared and red lights flashed all throughout the hallway.
Zoe came running towards me and tackled me to the ground, “Not so fast, you’re not going through that door,”
Zoe dragged me all the way back to the room that we started in. Sitting on the chairs in front of me were Aiden and Liam, tied back-to-back and behind them, was Aunt Kate holding someone like they were being arrested. Suddenly I realized who that person was, it was Marcus. “Zoe, what are you doing?” I asked as I was so confused about what was happening.
“Us steering into the void was not an accident by the way, Aunt Kate did it on purpose,”
“Well, I can see that, but why did you do all this?”
“I should have never been brought on this trip after what you guys did to me last time,”
“I thought you were over that,”
“Well, you thought wrong,” As Zoe walked over to the other side of the room, she pulled something out of her pocket. It was the key to open the statis pods. My mouth hung wide open in shock.
“Mia, I was trying to hide the key, I wasn’t trying to steal it,” Marcus said.
Zoe put the key into the statis pod, then when it opened, everything went pitch black.

  20. REWRITE:
Universal Galaxy Atomic Time Zone 12.45.5724- Zoe’s Log
The last few days have changed my life. There’s still so much to process. I realised that I needed to get along with my cousins to survive instead of bickering about who’s smarter (still me though 😜) all the time. I get it. We are all smart. But we have to get along. I remember when Aiden stepped into the void, ready to sacrifice himself for the family, to stop mysterious aliens called the Luminas from jeopardising the existence of the universe. I also realised my whole life was a lie. Our parents, uncles and aunts have been lying to us about our own lives, using us as test subjects for their experiments. AND I NEVER REALISED UNTIL NOW.
When my parents told me I was going to a family reunion with my cousins, I could not be more depressed. I hated my cousins all in different ways.
At around the third day of the family reunion, there was a strange lack of our annoying parents. It was quieter than normal. My cousins and I fought all morning about where our parents were. Finally we decided to go to the sleeping or preserving pods (of course, this was my amazing idea!). To our horror, we saw our parents simply lying inside the pods, as if they were completely frozen in time. After that we obviously bickered some more about what we would do.

A few hours later, we heard ominous beeps (Liam’s favourite) emanating from the pilot room. We all raced to the room. To our surprise, the space cruise was set to the coordinates: (-123266, 125756). Then we all realised it was the Alpha Nebula! No one had ever returned from the Alpha Nebula. At least, no one lived to tell the story…

We all started to panic. Aiden started to recite the digits of Pi to calm down, Mia began to scream random scientific jargon I had no idea about, Liam started to frantically type on his holoscreen and of course, I listed all the chess strategies that ever existed. It was simply chaos. Finally Liam managed to close down the Auto-Pilot coordinates, even though it left us floating in space.

Suddenly we all felt a cold gust of wind rush through our bodies. A mysterious voice swept through our minds. We are the Lumina. It said. We have been trying to contact you for years. How come we could never find you? I stood up nervously and cried, “BECAUSE OF THIS!” I held up a folder with the bold letters: OPERATION FIREWALL. “Our parents have been lying to us for years! WE WERE SIMPLY TEST SUBJECTS! WE WERE NEVER HERE FOR A REUNION!” I yelled. I was blinking back tears, staring at my cousins’ reactions. From that moment, a pang of love rushed through my heart. I realised I loved my family, and how stupid I had been in the past. The others must’ve felt it too, because they were staring at each other with surprise.

WE, THE LUMINA, DEMAND FOR COMMUNICATION! WE SHALL SIMPLY DEVOUR THE UNIVERSE WITH THE HELP OF YOUR GREAT POWER! At that point, we all spontaneously froze with trepidation. These aliens wanted to devour the universe? Not good news. Aiden stepped forward. “There is only one way to solve this. And it involves stepping into space.” The rest of us cried out loud. “No! There must be another way! You can’t just sacrifice yourself!” Aiden looked at us. “I’m the oldest. It’s my responsibility.” He began walking to the exit. I ran after him. Mia and Liam simply exchanged stern faces, accepting Aiden’s decision. “No! Please! AIDEN!” I yelled.

Aiden looked back. I saw the loving yet determined face. He stared, gave me a smile, and said, “I loved you Zoe, and all of the other cousins. I just never got to tell you until now.” Aiden turned around, and stepped into the void of space. Then I blacked out.

I woke up to the sight of my cousins and parents. Everyone was traumitised from the experience.
My mind is still really cloudy. But I know what I really need is to spend some time with my cousins, in a real family reunion.
