  1. As I open delicate drawers, I peer into the last one expecting nothing like all the other ones, however I knew that the qlue led to this. Then as it opened, while creaking I saw a little map with serpintine letters saying that ‘only the bravest of the brave would even dare to go on this quest. To me, this just felt like excalibur. But, I knew I had to make the journey, so I took of to the place where I thought no one went to, the cape of bass.

Adreneline pumped through my body as the last checks where made for the enduring task of making it to the bass. I think that even if I get the treasure, I probably won’t make it far, however, no pain no gain. So as the ship left the homeland of Britain, I looked further across the sea and into the thick fog. Storms hit us and giant waves that we barely survived, but if only I knew, if only. I look ahead as a ship bearing the flag of a skull taunted us as they shot towards us. The omly explination was pirates. But not only any pirate gang, the fiercest of the them all, the outbacks. With boats 40m long and a crew of at least 30, they took down any crew in their way. I swore under my breath as they grabbed ropes ready to attack. With in a few seconds we were fighting for our lives.

As the pirates bombarded us with their slashes, we were only lucky we had an experienced captan who could fight and steer. It would’ve ended however a cannon missed and a load more people came. I wondered if they had futeristic technology and they could simply pass messages, hundreds of metres away. We fought and fought until we saw the island of the skulls. There were a bunch of people here, and it was only then, when I realised, this was a competition of not only the tresure, but also for life.

At least 10 pirate groups were there and 2 exploration groups this was way more than expected, it must’ve been for the tresure. However, me being the son of the best pirate in the world, thought I knew all the secrets. I looked in obvious places and found a note. ‘Son, I know you found this, and if you’re wondering, it is not here, but is on the volcano. I look up and find something I hadn’t sawn before, a huge volcano towering in the middle of the island and I started climbing.
“You must ‘ave rocks is yur noggin!” I hear with a mixture of gasps and screams.
    I didn’t listen because I knew that my dad wasn’t a liar.

I stare at the top of the volcano into the mountain of molten rock and lava. I see barely engraved on the ground, ‘trust me, jump’. So, I jumped. Searing heat burned through me, but I figured that I hadn’t been hurt because I would have died by now. I was left there for 5 seconds, when I opened my eyes and saw, I was in a room. Then, my dad.
“Son! you’ve found me!” my dad exclaimed as I reached into him for a hug.
“So where is the tresure?” I ask quickly.
He move out of the way and says the most important words in my life, ‘nothing, not gold, not rubies is more expensive, better than friendship and family. As we walked out together, I repeat those words so much, I think I engraved them into my mind. When we sail back, I decide, no more tresure hunting and more friends.

  3. To the Royal Geographic Society(RGS),
I, the infamous Jack Hawkins, has returned from my perilous journey to the cursed Skeleton Isle.

As I disentangled the jumbled knot on the parchment that seemed to be a map, my grandfather creaked opened the door, making me jump.
“By my life! You have found the ancient map of the legendary Brenden Howth!” He exclaimed.
“So what’s meant to be?” I questioned.
” ‘Tis the map to the Skeleton Isle, to the cursed treasure.” Grandfather explained slowly. “You should find a ship, and a crew, as you will become famous one day
when you return with the treasure!”

The next morning, I wandered around, checking every ship and its crew I could find. Finally, I wandered upon a good looking ship named the “Sea Serpent” with a fit crew, ready for adventure.
The price I paid was high, but I accepted it, as money can be earned back slowly, but the adventure could not be.

As the captain (old Ferdinand) and I set sail, the sky began to darken.

Five days on the ship and our people are already suffering from scurvy. As the captain and I were discussing which route we should head, we overheard the Helmsman, the Chief Steward, the Cook and the Oiler remarking the harsh weather, and most suspiciously, taking the lifeboat and sailing out.
Oh those treacherous men, wanting to overthrow us and take control of the boat and the treasure!
“I’ll trap the two men, the boy and the cap’n in their sleeping beds at midnight.” exclaimed the Helmsman.
“I will stop their food rations” cackled the Chief Steward.
“I will pour oil onto their beds” said the Oiler.
“And I’ll set fire to the oil!” giggled the Cook unpleasantly “They’ll never get out of the sea of fire alive!”

Old Ferdinand and I looked at each other with horror. At midnight, the four rebels, with pistols and cutlass’ came into our room not knowing the trap that me and the captain set.
As they crept closer, we jumped out of our hiding place and attacked them from behind. Old Ferdinand did most of the work, so I gave him most of the credit.

After we finished them off, we could finally have a good nights sleep…

    Day 7
We approached the shore of Skeleton Isle, cautious of our surroundings.
As Old Ferdinand and I came across what seemed to be a stone door, many apparitions surrounded us, and in the middle, walked the legendary Brenden
    Howth.
“Only one, only one for now your quest is done!” And with that, Brenden dissipated.
Ferdinand and I looked at each other, speechless.
That night we agreed that we don’t take the treasure and only take the lessons we learnt from our journey.
I wrote this journal on the way of going home.

Yours, the loyal and infamous Jack Hawkins.

    Week 3: Writing

    INTERVIEW QUESTION

WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS AND HOW DO YOU PLAN TO CULTIVATE THEM HERE (SCHOOL) IN 200 WORDS?

I have a strong sense of responsibility, and I tend to show this skill in music, where I am the leader of orchestras and ensembles. I plan to cultivate them at… and improve to make my leadership role even better. I have several other strengths, such as honesty, perseverance and integrity. I can cultivate my honesty by displaying it so others can be influenced to do better. I could potentially cultivate my perseverance strengths in many subjects and activities, such as cross-country. For example, if I do keep running in cross-country, it would influence the people beside or behind me to keep running, which would then continue until the end of the trail. I show great integrity by standing up for anyone who is being bullied or teased by anyone else; I do the right thing, not the easiest. I plan to cultivate… into a better school that will have a positive pond of students. Also, my strengths truly evaluate with… school values.

    Week 3: Writing
Writing Homework: Imagine you are Jack Hawkins, having just returned from your adventure on Skeleton Isle. Write a concise yet vivid narrative of your journey for the Royal Geographical Society. Include key events, challenges faced, and lessons learned while capturing the excitement of your adventure. Use at least 5 vocabulary words from the list in your narrative. (400 Words)

I never knew that on one particular morning I would find the old map. Finding Skeleton Isle was so overwhelming, finding the treasure was even more. The storyline goes like this:
That morning, I found the brittle parchment with a menacing skull-like island revealed by faded ink. A vermillion X marked the spot of the treacherous isle. In the right corner, it had serpentined writing: Beware the curse of Skeleton Isle, only pure heart and blood may claim the cursed treasure.

The next morning, I awoke to panicked shouts from my mates and my crew. I raced to the deck, seeing a massive kraken castigating the bow of the handsome galleon. As its horrendous tentacles threatened the ship, I remembered a spell that my master had taught me. Now it had come to use. I thrust my hands in the air and forced the spell towards the utopian creature as it sped off into the distance. I knew that this was just the beginning of a sinister and perilous adventure. Our victory was ephemeral.

The next day, a mutiny took place. Half of the crew sabotaged us overboard, and I ended up being marooned on an uncharted and unfamiliar island with my fellow companions. In our dire situation, it spent us two days of hard work to build a canoe connected to a wooden shaft that would carry and drift along our few supplies and belongings. One of those was my beloved map.

A few hour later, Skeleton Isle loomed in the horizon as our canoe drifted towards it, endlessly brushing the waves. Eventually, the immense structure was right above my head, signalling that it was time for my crew and I to get off. I tied the raft sufficiently to a nearby ramp, which our team followed. In front of me was a ponderous bronze door, with mysterious dots of all kinds on it. As my fingers touched the passcode, it started rumbling and the ground began to shake uncontrollably. I stumbled as one of my mates Brate gripped me tightly, holding me until the shaking had finally stopped. This time, I looked at the map, realising that the passcode was 2E$ighke. I quickly entered the password, fingers-crossed that the ground wouldn’t have tremors again.

The door opened and a golden glory of light shone brightly. I squinted, trying to make out what the huge pile was. At last, it was a pile of shining hay. As my team and I fumbled through it in search of the famous, cursed amulet, I understood something- the amulet was nothing, the reason of this mystery was to test who had the integrity in the end. As Brate uncovered the amulet, he handed it to me and I tore it up into a thousand marbles. It was the end of our adventure, and I returned home, learning the lesson that no one else had.

  5. WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS AND HOW DO YOU PLAN TO CULTIVATE THEM HERE?

One of my strengths is that I am quite careful. I do not rush into things. For example, once I was asked if I wanted to go on a large fast slide. Except I knew that I would be way too afraid to do it so I did not force myself to do something I did not want to. Similarly, I once wanted to eat some spicy chips as a lot of people in my class had tried them. Once again I knew that I could not eat such spicy foods so I did not try to. How I would cultivate this strength here is that I would not promise things that I can not do such as playing in many different sports and being really good at all of them. Another way that I could show this strength is by not trying to do a very advanced task straight away if I knew it would be too hard for me. Even though I would not do it straight away, I could start trying to do a few easier ones to build up my skills so that I can eventually do the advanced task.

The Cursed Map Of Skeleton Isle

Jack Hawkins’ hands were perspiring as he held the map gently and stared at the it. At twelve years old Jack was quite immature, he had dreamed of gathering a pirate crew and setting aboard on an adventure to find shining gold hidden on the shores of mysterious islands. Now here was the way that he could do it! Slowly and carefully Jack looked at the ancient treasure map. He saw the path that he must follow and read the final island’s name, twisting the syllables on his tongue.

Just then his mother came in, she spied his map and laughed. “That is a very realistic treasure map you have got there”his mother said,”when will you get bored of making pretend maps and going on imaginary adventures? Isn’t it time you start to do things that would benefit your time more?” Jack’s mother did not approve of his ideas of becoming a pirate of the sea, she would much prefer him to do his homework and read books. “This map isn’t pretend, it shows a map and I am setting off today!”he yelled. “What?” His mother screamed,”young man, you are not becoming a pirate and that is that.” Angrily, Jack stomped out of the room and was as dark as a thunderstorm for the rest of the day. If his mother didn’t let him leave then how could he go to find the hidden treasure?

That night Jack came up with an idea. At midnight when his parents went to bed, Jack creeped down the stairs and picked up his bag of essentials that he had secretly packed earlier. Then he snuck out of the door and ran to the seaside. There he knocked on the door of his best friend’s house. He and his friend Tyler had known each other since they were in preschool, and they had bonded over their dream of becoming pirates. After knocking on the door, Tyler answered it. Tyler was very lucky as only slept at twelve on the weekends. Jack showed him the map and together they set off to find a ship to set sail on. Just as they were leaving, Jack noticed a part of the map that he had overlooked before. The words ‘those who come to find the treasure will be cursed with bad luck’ screeched out at him from the page. The two of them read it but just passed it off as a superstitious warning. Jack and Tyler continued their journey to find a boat. Jack had bought his parents wallet and after choosing a ship, they paid for it and had it brought down to the shore. Then the two of them climbed aboard and set off on their journey to find the treasure of the Skeleton Isle.

Jack and Tyler followed the map along the seas with ease for three days until they started to feel that something was wrong. They woke up on the fourth day and ate breakfast, while they were doing this they felt the ship turning. Both of them ran up to the deck and found a large gale blowing them the wrong way! Perspiration ran down Jack’s cheek as he pulled as hard as he could on the wheel, but the gale was too strong. Was this the doing of the curse? Just then Tyler ran up to the wheel and helped, together they were able to steer the ship the right way. The gale passed through after twenty minutes. When they looked out onto the sea, they saw a dark foreboding sinister island. They had arrived. As they docked on the shore, Jack and Tyler felt the change of mood in the sky. It seemed as if the second they stepped on the island the sky turned dark and lightning struck out from the clouds. It was impossible. Just seconds before the sky had been an ocean of blue and now the sky was filled with black clouds. Jack and Tyler trembled in trepidation but they both knew that the treasure lay somewhere on this island, so they had to keep going. Just then a streak of light passed through the side of Jack’s eye. The next thing he knew the trees that were on either side of him were blazing with fire. What was more, Tyler was lying on the ground with his clothes looking as though they had been thrown in a pit of flames.

All Jack could do was stare for a few seconds. Then he instantly flew over to Tyler,”hey can you hear me? Are you all right?”There was no answer, so Jack brang him back onto the ship. There he made a very challenging decision, was he to go back and get Tyler checked or should he keep going? Jack was very worried about Tyler, but they had come so far and he really wanted the treasure. So in the end, Jack decided to keep going. He stepped onto the hard floor and, now alone, started his search for the treasure. The island was not very big, so it did not take him long to circle the outside. After finding nothing Jack knew that the treasure would be in the centre of the Skeleton Isle. He wasted no time in getting to the very middle of the island, there he saw a door hidden on the side of the mountain that came up from the ground right there. Jack walked straight in and was straight away presented with a gigantic pile of gold, this was what he had came for. He piled the gold into a wagon that he had been pulling and made his way back to the ship. To his surprise he saw that Tyler had got up and was now back to normal like nothing had ever happened. When Jack asked how Tyler had healed so quickly, he answered that since Jack had persisted even after a large burden the curse had been lifted. So Jack and Tyler set sail to return to their homes with expensive gold ingots, but more importantly with accomplished dreams.

  6. I was trembling as I blew off the dust on the chest, revealing a small, weathered map inside. The serpentine letters on it read, “Only the bravest of the brave would even dare to go on this quest.” To me, it felt like finding Excalibur. Despite my fear, I knew I had to embark on the journey. I set my course for the Cape of Bass, a place whispered about in legends and seldom visited.

With adrenaline coursing through me, I made final preparations for the daunting voyage. The prospect of reaching the Cape filled me with both excitement and apprehension. As our ship left Britain’s shores, we plunged into thick fog and violent storms. Giant waves threatened to engulf us, but our determination pushed us forward.

Just when we thought we might be safe, a ship bearing a skull flag emerged from the mist. Pirates—the notorious Outbacks, known for their brutal reputation. Their massive boats, each 40 metres long with crews of at least 30, bore down on us. I cursed under my breath as they prepared to board. The ensuing battle was fierce. We fought valiantly, but the Outbacks’ superior numbers and weaponry made the struggle intense. Fortunately, our experienced captain managed to navigate and fend off the attackers, though a cannonball’s near miss suggested they might have some form of advanced communication to coordinate their strikes.

After narrowly escaping the pirates, we finally sighted the Isle of Skulls. To our dismay, the island was teeming with competitors—at least ten pirate groups and two other exploration teams. The competition was fiercer than anticipated. As the son of the world’s greatest pirate, I felt confident but quickly realised the stakes were higher than I had anticipated.

Searching through the island, I found a note hidden in a crevice: “Son, I know you found this. The treasure is not here, but on the volcano.” Looking up, I saw a massive volcano towering in the island’s centre. Despite the warnings and sceptical shouts from others, I knew I had to follow my father’s clue.

Climbing the volcano was treacherous. At the summit, I found an inscription barely visible on the ground: “Trust me, jump.” Without hesitation, I leaped into the molten lava below. The searing heat was intense, but I felt no pain. When I opened my eyes, I was in a hidden chamber, face-to-face with my father.

“Son! You’ve found me!” he exclaimed, embracing me warmly.

Eager to know the location of the treasure, I asked, “So where is it?”

He stepped aside and said, “Nothing, not diamonds or gold is more important than family.”

As we walked out together, those words became etched in my mind. Returning home, I vowed to prioritise friendship and family over any treasure hunt. This journey had taught me that the greatest riches were not material but the bonds we share with those we love.

  7. Annabelle Tung

The map of the unknown island
As I opened the map my hands pulsated in fear. The frayed parchment was stained with yellow and haunting obsidian ink filled the page. A skull shaped island appeared with a bright red X marks the spot on the page making, all the writing disappear except for one tiny bit. It read in the corner in smudged red ink, “Beware the curse of the skeleton isle for only the pure of heart will find it,”
I looked around to my friend’s, fear filled my eyes. “Guys, I think this is a sign,” I said, “We wanted adventure, and this map gave us it, I think it wants us to find the treasure,”
“That’s silly, it’s a map, it can’t tell us to do something,” said Amber. I stared at her and gave her a grin, then I put the map in the bin and walked away. Suddenly a whoosh came from the bin and the map appeared into my hands. “Now do you believe me?” Amber nodded and so did everyone else on the ship. I walked to the front of the ship, skeleton isle here I come.
As we set sail, me and Amber prepared our bags as for we were going to find that hidden treasure. Suddenly the ship came to a screaming halt and the ship started to wobble. Red lights blared from the sides of the ship, and everyone started to panic. The captain came running towards me screaming “The ship can’t get through the borders to get to the isle, the ship suddenly stopped, and we can’t get it to work again.” I looked at Amber and she gave me a nod, I knew what it meant. Grab the swimsuits, we’ll swim the rest of the way. Captain nodded and ran to get the swimmers. When she returned, we swam straight away and as we stepped onto the shore I felt a surge through my body. I unfolded the map, and we started to head north.
After a few hours we finally found a cave. Spiderwebs hung from the walls and water dripped from the ceiling. I looked down at the map to see if we were in the right place, but then suddenly the map started to vanish into thin air. Bits and pieces of the map floated out of the cave and the map was nothing but scrap. “I guess were on our own now.”
As we headed further into the cave, I started to hear this eery noise. Up ahead I spotted something, it was light. I ran towards it. That’s when I saw the chest. Numbers surrounded me on the walls and in the middle was the chest. I tried to open it, but it wouldn’t budge. There was a lock on the chest with a pin pad. The words replayed in my head “Only the pure of heart will find it,” That’s when I realized something. “I think we have to find the right combination on the walls to test if our intentions are true and pure of heart.” We searched the walls for a combination that looked right, and one caught my eye. 2078, the year my mum disappeared. The number just felt right. I walked to the chest and carefully put in the number. CLICK. The chest opened and in front of us were riches and jewels and almost anything we could have imagined. As we headed back out the cave someone was waiting for us. “Good job, you found the treasure,” said the captain.
“Thanks,” I replied. That’s when the unexpected happened. The captain took of her mask, the one she wore everyday and never took off. Under it revealed a familiar face. “MUM!” I ran into her arms and held on tight. “I knew you’d find the treasure, for your heart is as pure as anyone I know,”

  8. The Pirate’s Wealthy Loot

Jack meandered around his grandfather’s house. It was colossal, yet dull. On the carpet, he saw a dark, eerie serpent slithering across it. Curiously, he followed the snake until they hit a dead end. Jack looked above him to see a remarkable attic. Fortunately, there were ladders laying near the attic and Jack climbed it. He was anxious abut what he would discover up there. Maybe there were fatal animals that could eradicate Jack. But Jack was bold so he squinted through a hole and saw fragile boxes, withered plants and disintegrated light bulbs. Jack gathered up the courage to explore the attic so he crept into the attic and strolled around tranquilly. Unfortunately, something wriggled up poor Jack’s leg and it was a devious spider. It had eight hairy legs with a humongous thorax. Its venom was oozing down the its teeth. Jack shut his eyes frantically, just like someone would shut a window from a blizzard. Jack trampled on the spider and unfastened his eyes. He witnessed an affluent chest. He opened the chest and found a glorious map. There was an ‘X’ mark on the map which had to mean there was some exemplary loot there. Also, this meant one of Jack’s relatives was a pirate.

Jack ambled down from the attic to his grandfather. He told his grandfather about the pirate and the map. His grandfather stood in awe. The dynamic duo decided to find the loot marked on the map. They brought food and water. Then, they drove to the dock that was on the map and bought a miniature ship. It had a steam engine, which had steam rising from it. They got on the ship and rode it. Suddenly, a gleaming blue light arose form the map and stated the words: Treasure comes to those who do hard work, so I will send you back to the ages of the pirates so you will have a challenge for this plunder. Jack and his grandfather were petrified at the sight of a perplexing portal appearing in front of them. Their ship was forced to steer into the portal and then the portal closed. Suddenly, their puny ship was on ferocious tigers. They rocked around like babies in a cot. Water splattered everywhere, and the ship was fracturing. The two were drenched in the salty sea water. Their hearts were beating as hard as a lion. Finally, the infuriated waves had left them. In the distance, Jack and his grandfather saw an enormous pirate ship. Their flag had a skull with a sleek arrow in it. They had dreadful cannonballs and a large crew.

The ship was a blood curling sight and was heading towards Jack and his grandfather. Immediately, they started the engine and rode away from the pirates. Sweat trickled down Jack’s grandfather’s spine. His heart came out of his chest. Jack desperately started praying to God. After his prayers, he curled up in to a ball like an echidna. Somehow, the pirates were on their tail and people armed the cannons. BOOM! CREAK! SPLASH! Jack and his grandfather’s ship was obliterated and they were sinking. They strained as they ambled and frantically moved in peculiar ways. This adventure was extremely perilous. Jack’s grandfather was feeble and slowly, his eyes closed and he stopped moving and let go of control. Jack stared in sorrowness. His mind was a soup filled with loathe for the mischievous pirates and dejection for his grandfather. He could hear the despicable pirates cackle loudly. Jack swam to the top. CLUNK! Jack had hit his head on the anchor. It was a gigantic piece of glistening steel. Jack climbed the anchor and on to the ship. He swore to get the treasure for his grandfather.

Jack knew that every ship had a few escape boats, just in case the ship had collapsed. jack had to be cautious of his surroundings and make sure nobody saw him. Just then, a pirate discovered Jack. The pirate was youthful and had a scruffy beard. His skin was pale and he had a night black eye patch. His sword was as sharp as a shark’s tooth. His clothes ragged and torn. When he was about to let out a shriek, Jack covered his mouth and pleaded that both of them could form and alliance. The pirate agreed with Jack and the two quickly became friends. Jack started to deeply trust the pirate so he decided that the both of them could split the abundance. The pirate’s eyes twinkled when he heard the word abundance. The pirate lead the way to the boats and both of them hopped in to one and got the grabbed a paddle stick. They rowed out of the boat’s home, but they rowed out to broad daylight and the pirates saw them. They were in trepidation. They exclaimed traitor and coward at the pirate with Jack. He became melancholy. The pirates threw swords and hats at them and Jack caught a sword. The modern dynamic duo scurried out of the scene like rats.

They saw the tiny island on the map in the distance. They paddled vigorously towards the island, using all the energy left in their frail arms. Once they reached the island, Jack and the pirate observed their surroundings. The island had towering coconut trees. The native animals included plump birds, furry monkeys and shiny fish in the vast and deep ocean. They searched the island for the treasure, but it was extremely challenging, just as the blue orb of light had stated. Luckily, Jack saw something red in the distance. As he crept closer to it, the red thing transformed in to a cross. Jack shouted out to the pirate to tell him that he had found the loot. The pirate hurried over to Jack eagerly and stared at the cross like it was his family. Jack and the pirate dug the hole with their sweaty palms. WHOOSH! SPLAT! Jack and the pirate fell in to the hole they dug. They looked next to them to see a glowing chest. It was a blazing star. Jack and the pirate were gleeful. They opened the chest and cam out diamonds, rubies, emeralds and necklaces. Jack hauled half of the treasure and then the blue light cam out of the map and it congratulated Jack. The portal came back again. Jack and his new pirate friend had a farewell. Jack escaped through the portal and told his parents the whole sublime story.

  9. The Cursed Map of Skeleton Island
Esteemed members of the Royal Geographic Society,
I, Jack Hawkins, have just returned from a treacherous expedition to Skeleton Isle, encountering munities on board along with a fire on the deck, which was likely to be lit by traitorous hands. When we arrived at the island, we encountered a dark spirit which let us choose our destiny, before obliterating a cursed amulet. This led us to break free the enchanted island from its spell.
As we drew near the island in the 100-gunned HMS Royal George (1756), we wrongly thought that little could possibly go wrong in our expedition. However, trouble soon arose. The middle gundeck was soon ablaze, and although nobody knew who started the inferno, our best predictions pointed out that it was likely a traitor, one from the treacherous gang led by Long John Silver. Despite our best efforts to put it out, the blaze was growing larger by the minute and by the time we managed to, the ship was badly damaged.
We had to abandon ship, so a few loyal seamen jumped into a paddleboat with me, and we paddled to the cursed shores of Skeleton Isle. Some of the men held back, convinced that the island was riddled with traps, though eager ones leaped out of the boat in the frantic search for treasure. However, those that held back were right – patches of quicksand and killed off many of our men. Thee rest of us loaded up muskets and rifles and ventured in the heart of the island.
Before long, more people in our squadron randomly went missing. I swear I saw one of our acquaintances fade slowly into thin air right before my eyes. The curse itself began to appear – in the form of a horridly frightening spirit. We naturally raised our weaponry and opened fire, but the spirit was unaffected. It told us to face our fears and vanished without a trace. With no pause, we all instinctively ran back to what remained of the Royal Geroge.
In the weeks in returning, we realized that we had not yet looted Flint’s treasure, though it barely mattered. The real lesson was the experience-this is a moment I will never forget. We had learnt the most asset – the wisdom of facing our fears rather than the treasure itself.
I stand ready to give a more detailed account at the society’s convenience.

With a sense of profound exhilaration and humbled awe that I recount my recent expedition to the enigmatic Skeleton Isle, a journey marked by both perilous challenges and remarkable discoveries.
Before we embarked on this mission we had some competition who would be ready to sabotage us just to get whats there. We traveled on a Galleon which is a sailing ship in use originally as a warship, later for trade. Galleons were typically square-rigged and had three or more decks and masts. As we sailed through the treacherous seas, a eerie screen of ash surrounded our galleon but soon the island greeted us with an aura of eerie desolation. The skeletal remains of ancient trees and the ever-present fog created an atmosphere steeped in mystery. Our primary objective was to chart the uncharted and unravel the secrets buried within the island’s depths.
When we searched for a unimaginable time and we unraveled a parched and withered parchment. Marking X with a blood like vermillion color. There were two amulets strapped to the back of it. An amulet is an bracelet that is thought to give protection from super natural, evil and curses. I was ominous because of that.
The X was located on top of the dormant volcano. So started our climb to the top. Climbing rock by rock. Soon we got to the top. There were vines covering the entrance so I used my Cutlass to slash it open but it asked for a code. So we figured it could be on the map and it was. The hieroglyphics were the bird, foot and the hand spelling out BAD. Next we saw a map marking another red X. So we headed down to the location. We had to experience the treacherous tall volcanoes and the obsidian everywhere. The walk to the X was hard including where you have to cross a steaming pond. Where the X was located it had a slot where you could enter hieroglyphics. I thought to enter the one that we solved earlier. I entered it in and a old rusty treasure box.
We carried it and headed to the ship. I suspected that I had scurvy ( Scurvy is when your body lacks vitamin c, it is common between sailors. The journey back was foreboding because of the rough nature of the sea. It was scary because of the constant sense that a spectral was lurking. I did smuggle some obsidian because it was really interesting. We had a rendezvous after we arrived.

  12. The Adventure

The sea chest’s brown leather skin was peeling from old age, a sheet of dust covering the exterior like a blanket. Clicking the ancient chest open, Jack’s frail hands trembled as he unrolled the coffee brown parchment. The frayed edges drooped down, covering the letters and scrawny lines as if everything the scroll contained was something secretive. Light, faded lines formed a menacing island, the skull shape communicating a imperilling sense. A dark Red Cross marked where the valuable treasure was buried. On the very edge of the torn paper was a message. “All treasure comes with a cost. This one is the curse of the Skeleton Isle. Go if you wish- those who have dark reasons can’t be ensured to return.”

An adventurous journey was what Jack had been seeking. This was his chance. Whatever challenges, he would endure.

Sailing to the Skeleton Isle was not a smooth ride. The towering waves rushed up, flooding the wooden ship, rotting many of the floorboards. The ominous grey clouds and howling winds, screaming with pain and despair seemed to target the ship, never fading or ceasing. He had underestimated resources, never thinking that the weather would be so unpleasant and unpredictable. There was a palpable tingling posing an agitation everyday. This weather was not a coincidence. The curse mentioned was challenging them, and Jack had no knowledge of what its scheme had listed next. The effects of the curse would get much more serious than just rotten floorboards and decreased rations, due to a serious lack of supplies.

“Stick to the original plan! Don’t feel sorry for that gullible lad. Kill the boy, take the treasure. Easy. That boy is far from cunning. The hunting pistol will work just as well. We shall go when he is least expecting it, when all crew is asleep, when he is tired to think properly. Few minutes after midnight.” A raspy, coarse voice recounted his plan of betrayal. Jack’s lungs tightened jaggedly, like an over-taut balloon. Strolling away from the rough wall in which parted his private space from the common one, his mind raced. Beads of hot sweat dripped onto the ragged floor, holes everywhere and rats scurrying around underneath them. The conditions on the ship weren’t going to be much better than those on the island. Escaping was is only hope.

In a swift motion he sprinted out of the ship, eyeing the island for a suitable area to rest in. His feet crunched on the uneven pebbles, attempting to go quickly but also maintaining grip on the slippery rocks and the occasional puddles which were dark and seemed to smirk sinisterly at him. His surroundings were all blurry due to the darkness and lack of sunlight although it was only late evening. He had gathered food, water and medicine in his bag. The map was scrunched in his hand, all crinkled but still illegible. “Okay. Time to finish the final bit of this adventure.”

His aching legs burned with tiredness, arms sore from digging. A few times he had falsely read the map, digging holes in places which just seemed to be filled with an endless smooth of rock and dirt. This spot had to be it. While digging he looked over his shoulder frequently. Sometimes it was a small sound of footsteps on the rocks. Sometimes it was that, at the corner of his eye, there was a shadow looming over him. It was quite an unpleasant feeling, causing him to be alert and his eyebrows were knitted together in concern. However, soon after, the pain in his limbs got sharper and these worries ceased.

He felt something smooth and soft, delicate like a Princess’s skin. Pulling it up with weak arms, his eyes lit up, mouth curving upwards. A warm spark circulated in his body, soon overpowering all anxious worries that once dominated. “It’s not yours, boy.” A dark, deep voice boomed out. “It’s mine. Hand it over to me. Now.”

He felt the cold nozzle of a gun pressed to his temple, his body forced up. “I…” he stuttered in fright, shock and fury. His life would end quietly, carrying melancholy. He didn’t want it to happen, but it seemed like his fate wasn’t controlled by himself anymore.

Then he fell to the ground. The man had vanished, his gun too. “All treasure comes with a cost. This one is the curse of the Skeleton Isle. Go if you wish- those who have dark reasons can’t be ensured to return.” These words echoed him Jack’s mind. The curse had firstly been such a hinderance, and a great obstacle. He had altering views on the curse now. Smiling, he lifted the chest up and headed back to the ship. The journey home would be of a high standard, now with the curse in his favour, and the treasure.
